Most will be maple, but those desiring ash, cedar or locust may have them. Richmond Hill Tree Ser- Vice received the contract from town council at a total cost of Although this service was discussed by the York South Regional Education Committee, through which boards in this area share services, no other boards had subscribed, Mr. McIntyre reported. “Regional boards. through shared ser- vices. may make use of a teacher employed by this board on a part-time basis. but until Mrs. Foot gets started we are not going to give her too heavy a workload. This is such a new field, we want to keep control and find out if it’s Worth de- veloping further," the superin- tendent said. Will Teach English As Foreign language In R. Hill Public Schools Some children in Richmond Hill public schools suffer a learning disability because to them. English is a foreign lan- guage. Trustees decided to take the first step toward al- leviating this handicap, Sep- tember 26, when they agreed to the appointment of Mrs. Elizabeth Foot to teach English as a foreign language. Her ap- pointment takes effect October 15. Mrs. Foot, who holds a perâ€" manent teaching certificate in the Province of Quebec and a Letter of Standing in the Pro- vince of Ontario, has taught six years in the City of Montreal and two years in North York. For three years she has had special assignments with the Ginn Publishing Company in designing a language (English) program for the primary divi- sion. To aid Mrs. Foot as she un- dertakes this new task, the board agreed to pay her $50 fee to enrol in the Department of Education winter course in teaching English as a foreign language. This course com- menced last Saturday and is being offered by the Metropoli- tan Separate School Board. Mrs. Foot will be granted the salary category of standard two with eight years‘ experi- ence and will be included in the special education teaching staff. She will thus receive $4,050 for half-time services. She will also receive a special travel allowance since she will work at all six schools in the system. It was pointed out by Super- lntendent Gordon McIntyre that there are special legisla- tive grants to assist in this pro- gram, but how much the board will receive will not be known until application is submitted to the department. All are well marked by signs and have boxes where outgoing mail may be de- posited.
