The organizers are attempting to organize a boycott of Caliâ€" fornia grapes throughout North America. Recently an attempt by the California growers to obtain an injunction against the Toronto City Council from proclaiming a day in support of the strikers was quashed in the courts. 1 “4.. Mrs. Beatrice Bryant of Richmond Hill and Archibald McGugan of Rich- Vale said that their reception by the shoppers was friendly and their relations with the store managers “cordial” dur- ing the demonstration. Both are teachers and became interested in the plight of the California workers at the re- cent New Democratic Party leadership convention in Kitch- ener to which they were dele- gates. Jessica Govia, a migrant worker who is organizing the Toronto boycott, spoke at the convention. The Ontario NDP Party have endorsed the boy- cott. Saturday's picketers were all NDP members. However, Mr. McGugan said he welcomed support from any part of the community. “This isn’t an official politi- cal act,” he said. “It’s a matter of conscience and morality.” “Its important for all people who work to help one another,” said Mrs. Bryant. She added that the workers were largely Mexican-Ameri- cans and negroes who were being discriminated against by California whites with the tacit support of Governor Ronald Reagan. “It’s about time we whites did something to help the people we have exploited in the past,” GIVE HiM A GILBERT'S SMOKE 22 Yonge St. S.
