Vaughan Township Council doesn’t like the way neighbor- ing municipalities sliced its boundary lines to pieces at a recent county regional goverm ment meeting in Newmarket. Reeve Garnet Williams said at last week’s council meeting that he was “ashamed of the ef- fort we put up as a council at this county meeting. We said almost nothing about what we wanted while the, other munici- palities carved us up left, right and centre.†The matter rose when Coun- cillor John Gilbert castigated council for failing to produce a map clearly butlining the boundary lines “we want for our own township. “I think we will be very lax if we don't have another meet- ing and draw up a map outlin- ing our suggested boundaries as well as stating what our require- ments as a township are. “We stood by while Mark- ham Township cut us up. while Richmond Hill cut us up. and even Woodbridge got a piece of us. I feel that we should definitely state what we feel our lines should be.†He also charged that council hadn't “looked too good at the meeting. I think it is very im- portant to let everyone know where we stand and a map is important because words are soon forgotten.†Get Away From My Door Cries Vaughan Township Council The councillors spent most of their time turning their guns on themselves noting that they had recommended that “no maps be submitted to the meeting" which was held in Newmarket March 26 "showing the proposed re- structing of local municipalities with the County of York.†Reeve Williams observed that it was “a shame Vaughan didn’t participate in drawing a map and clearly showing what we wanted for ourselves. We’re the industrial hub of this area and we should have something to say." “I think it’s about time we got our heads out of the sand,†said Councillor John Gilbert. The regional government debate took a new turn when Deputy-reeve Albert Rutherford commented that “there isn’t one of the Southern Six municipalities that think alike.†This brought Councillor Dal- ton McArthui' into the fray denying the Southern Six municipalities were in disagree- ment. “For the first time in five years we have three major municipalities agreeing that the form of government should be the Southern Six.†He explained the three muni- cipalities were Richmond Hill, Vaughan and Markham Town- ships. "Richmond Hill Reeve Donald Plaxton stated that it was the majority of his council’s feelâ€" ings that the Southern Six should be the logical form of a regional government,†he said. Councillor Gilbert stated that “we should sponsor a meeting R.R. N0. 2, MAPLE or 'by writing to CANADIAN CO-OPERATIVE WOOL GROWERS LIMITED 40 St. Clair Avenue East Toronto 7, Ontario.
