The plaée to be this weekend if you're a fast-l ball fan just has to be New- market where the sixth an- nual Ontario Amateur Soft- ball Association elimina-l tion tournament will be swinging into action Fri- day, Saturday and Sunday. Domik came on to win five of the six games the Jewellers participated in including three games on that final, blistering‘hof‘day. ‘ He, gave. up but four runs. had four shutouts, gave up only ‘22 hits in 42 innings, and struck out a total of 53 batsmen. He also drove in the winning run that allowed the Jewellers to win it all. The Jewellers will be taking to the field against Welland Friday night at 9 pm in the first game of the double-knockout tournament which will see some 16 teams participating. All the games will be of seven inning duration except for the final three games Of the tournament which will be nine innings. Other participating teams include Oshawa Tony‘s, Burlington, Niagara Falls, London (which won it last. year), St. Catharines. Sault Ste. Marie, and, of course, Newmarket Ray‘s Gulf. The winner of the 1971 tournament will repre- sent Ontario in the CASA, Championships to be held in Halifax on Labor Day Weekend. REMEMBER 1968? But back to 1968 when Dynes’ hurler Bob Domik came up with what was probably his best moments in his sojournfiin a Jewellgrj uhifprm. The Jewellers arrived in Windsor in the midst of a slump having lost their last two games in inept fashion to teams in the Toronto Beaches League. They arrived for the big weekend tournament with but one pitcher in tow, that being, of course, Mr. Domik. SWIMMING POOLS More than one fan was heard to mutter that “they must be nuts coming to a tournament like this with only one chucker.” ‘ Ironically, the Jewellers went on to play in the All Canadian in St. Catharines with Domik being forced into the background by a 19-year-old Oshawa leftyiby the name of Pete Landers. ‘ Landers was picked up for the tournament by the Jewellers. pitched brilliantly. but in a losing cause as St. Catharines went on to take it. Just one of those things. ~ But on that Sunday in Windsor it was all Bob Domik. Something to see. How many players are still. on the team from that Windsor series? The Hill boys were simply “psyched” by the bigger Springbrook team as well as their fans. Baker's were visibly nervous and booted the ball around. The ladies‘ section of the lo- cal club held a trebles tourna- ment June 29., which was won by'a rink skipped by Mrs. Marj- orie Skelly of Agincourt. High two game winners were a local rink composed of Mrs. Dorothy Bovaird, Mrs. Russell Lynett and Mrs. Ruby Stone. The J. A. Green Trophy for mixed trebles which was up for competition in the July 1 tourâ€" nament held at RichmOnd Hill Lawn Bowling Club will re- main in Richmond Hill this year. The winning rink was composed of Jean Keith-Marie, Mrs. Ruby Stone and Russell Lynett. Local Lawn Bowlers In Winners' Circle June 30 at the Boulevard Club. a Richmond Hill rink, composed of Bob Smith. Mor- ley Hall and James Grainger were third for three wins. This was an invitational tournament for Mr. Boulevard Day. Mr. Boulevard was Judge Robert Taylor, who presides over pro- vincial courts in Richmond Next Wednesday, July 14. the district men's trebles tourna- ment will be held at the local greens. Strictly a bad night for the Rippers June 25 as they took a 12-3 drubbing at the hands of East Gwillimibury. There were a total of 10 errors committed. I This was Fox‘s first loss of ithe season. The Richmond Mariner Rip- pers won another game recently but they also lost their first one of the season. They downed Pine Orchard 17-4 but lost by 12-3 to East Gwillimbury. Homeruns were hit by Mike Woods, two by Ted Gailony. Three base hits were by Kevin Brillinger, Ernie Buck, while John Tipold came up with three doubles with doubles also being contributed by Jerry Chassion and Mike Woods. Jim Clement and Mike Woods also had two singles. John Tipold. Kevin Briliinger, Bill Fox Jr.. Ernie Buck, Randy Brunce and Tony Robinson all had singles.
