700 Students In Successful Track And Field Meet Trustees of York County ROJ man Catholic School Board are‘ pleased with the success of the boards first county-wide track and field meet. Track and field records were established for 83 events in (our divisions: bantam, junior, intermediate and senior. All track events were recorded on the school metre used in inter- national competition, and a few outstanding records set. Reporting to the board, As- sistant Superintendent John Zupanclc said the time estab lished by Steve Renaud of St. Mark‘s School, Stouffville, in the senior boys' 100 metre (for boys 13 and over) was believed to be a new world record. Steve's time was 12.3 seronds. which. as far as he knows. is 2.3 seconds off the world rec- 0rd. Antique buyers had a field day. but for Buttonville neigh- bors it was a sad one. There have been Kellys at Buttonville for four generations. The names are synonymous, and no one can assess what the family has meant to the community and the area at large. Now they plan to move to Newmarket where their son has I dental‘ practice. At a meeting July 6. trustees were informed that 700 stud- ents from 13 schools partici< pated in the meet at Dr. G. W. Williams Secondary School. Aurora, on 'June 19. and about 300 spectators were on hand. And while Buttonville Wom- en's Institute is to be commend- ed for their efforts in building the present Buttonville Com- munity Hall. it was Dr. George who secured the land for the Difficulties were éncountered owing to the late decision to have a field day, said Mr. Zu- pancic. The two King schools were not able to attend because they were involved in their own track meet with the public schools on the same day. For more than 85 years Dr. George Kelly and his father nerved York County as veterin- arians". Dr. George still mainâ€" tain: an interest as veterinar- lan at the Stouffville Sales Barns. This has been a traditional meet. and Mr. Zupancic assured the board that next year the Roman Catholic meet would be planned for a different day. Three small schools with no senior pupils did not participate either. Asked why the meet had been held on a Saturday. he. explain- ed that it would not have been possible to arrange for buses on a School day as they had their regular routes. Also fewer par- ents would be able to attend on a week day. AURORA â€" South Lake Siche Conservation Authority is nego- tiating for the purchase of a 58-acre site, the Reginald Shep- pard Estate at the south end of Ross Street. Mr. Sheppard. a former mining prospector will donate the site to the Ontario Heritage Foundation. which in turn will place management in the hands of the authority He The experience gained. said Jerry Sorochan, physical educa- tion consultant in his year-end report. will help in eliminating confusion in the future. and recommendations for the organ- lzation of an annual track meet were approved by the board. wiLl continue to live in the home for five years. Saturday all roads led to the auction sale at the Kelly home south of Buttonville bridge. Well before 1 pm cars lined Don Mills Road for more than I mile on both sides. They were parked on every available lane and side street. and in a field donaled for the purpose by Edgar Fuller. All schools with primary and iunior grades were supplied with "playday" and "tabloid meet" programs so that they could make their own arrangé. ments for these activities in the local schools. Services Were held at 0'- Neill‘s Funeral Home at Stouff- ville July 19th, with interment at Pine Hills Cemetery. Sur- viving. with Mrs. Baldwin, are a son, Archie and daughter Flor- ence (Mrs. J.
