In the year before he started university. Bishop Read who was born and raised in To- ronto. spent the summer on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Heber Mc- Cague at Victoria Square. He gave assistance to the activities of Victoria Square United Church. particularly the junior choir, that summer. CITIZEN OF YEAR In 1966 he was voted Barrie‘s "Citizen Of The Year" in re- cognition of his service to the community. Particularly he did extensive work among prisoners at Simcoe County Jail where he was prison chaplain. He also did work among senior citizens and with youth groups. He served as a staff member of the Diocesan Rural Training College and on the District of Barrie Board of Education. He was awarded a rural workers fellowship by the Episcopal Church in 1952'.
