Wilson Niblett 2, Barrie 2 An exceptionally excellent game for so early in the season was witnessed on local ice Octo- ber 31 between Barrie Atoms and the local atom representa- tives, Wilson Niblett’s boys. The 2-2 tie game was indicative] of the evenly matched teams andl play. It was a real close, hard-hit- ting game on Sunday as Tourna- ments Inc. took on the powerful Barrie team. Barrie scored in the first period and Danny Jones, assisted by Rob Walling- ford, tied the game with less than five minutes to go. Kevin Mabley played a real strong game in goal. This lead held up until late in the third period when Barrie finally slid the rubber under Kelvin Nakamichi’s stick. Kelvin played a really solid game be- tween the posts for the locals. The next league game is with Woodbridge in Wood- brldge November 5. The return game with Barrie is on Saturday. MIDGETS Bond Steel 4, Barrie 3 The Steelers are beginning to get the impression that the op- position from last year are out to get revenge, one way or the other. Sunday’s game was a rough and rugged affair with the Barrie Club getting slightly frustrated in the third period. Strangely enough the Steelers ended up with the most penal- ties. It‘s a strange world. Goals for the Steelers went to Clement, McDonald, Kennedy and Sackfield. Assists went to Clement, McDonald, Horvat, McPhee and Kennedy. In the third Barrie took an early initiative and added goals at 1:43 and again at 3:51. The Riders continued to threaten but to no avail. Final score was Bar- rie 4, Traveiways 1. This was the first defeat for the Riders this year in eight appearances. This year the RHMHA has decided to limit the number of fund raising projects to meet its heavy budget and ensure that all boys in Richmond Hill have the opportunity to play hoc- key. One of the limited num- ber of money raising efforts is the sale of Christmas cakes and puddings. The town has been canvassed but many people were not at home when the boys called. If you would like to purchase either or both of these de- lectable items for the fes- tive season and at the same time help the minor hoc- key players, call 889-4330. Dennis Acomb rounded out the scoring for the Legion at 8:59 of the third with Bruce Hipkiss and Kim Mabley draw- ing assists. Backed by good goaltending by Bruce Hails and fine heads- up hockey by the entire team the Legion outhustled their op- ponents and outshot them 31-15. The win, nonetheless, had its toll as the Legion's fine centre Chuck Lunau left the game early in the second period with a broken nose. MIDGETS arena.
