Countdown time. It‘s almost Christmas. almost New Year’s Eve, almost time for me to run for cover. But there's one thing I'm really grateful for this yuletide season. I won't have to fuss and fret about ruining my health. I ruined it last year. I still haven‘t got it back. And’I made a major decision this time out. Last Christmas I sent out one Christmas Card. This year I‘ve decided to cut down. Anyway. Merry Christmas! May all your dis- asters be worthwhile. I intend to make mine worth- while. You've got to go big. Now to the subject matters at hand: The pace is going to be even more dizzy than usual this between-Christmas-and-New Year's season for local sports enthusiasts. Chatted to Coach Gary Smith the other day and he was looking forward with a considerable degree of anticipation to the first of what will be an annual peewee shoot-out. “The youngsters will certaiqu be up'for the tournament and they‘ll be giving it all they Ye got. he said. Gary realizes he doesn't have a powerhouse go- ing for him this season. The Lions have won six and lost five and tied one in North York League play to date. ' “ "We‘ve only got two returnees from last season's squad,” he said. “But what the boys lack in power they make up in hustle. Our biggest problem has been scoring goals. It‘s been a problem mainly because I've had trouble getting the guys to shoot. But they’ll come around.” Coach Smith figures peewee hockey finds the youngsters at their best. “It's still fun for everyone at the Peewee stage." he explained. “They're not at the cross-roads where (Continued on Page 12) Sport - Spots Ah, Merry Christmas The festivities will offic- ially be launched Monday at 3:30pm with guests on hand such as Mayor William Lazenby.
