Tuesday morning‘s games saw a number of teams fall by the tournament wayside as the elimination games got under- way after Monday's initial start. One of the victims‘ was the popular team from Levack which was shunted to the side- lines in a 3-2 game loss to the Toronto Foster Firebirds. It was Levack‘s first loss of the season. “They were ready to pack up and leave for home." said Mur- phy. "They almost blew the roof off when we told them their billets would be available to them {or the remainder of the week so they could watch the conclusion of the tourna- ment." The same ieam ran into an unfortunate situation at. an- other tournament last season when “my were eliminated from competition and had to leave for Levack at 1:30 am because their billeting time had expired. Other tournament g a m e 5 Tuesday saw Ottawa Canadians downing Oakville 4-0; Detroit over Toronto Marlies 4-2; Hamilton 8, St. Clair Shores, Michigan 4. The Richmond Hill Legion‘ Midgets were slated to go against Burlington at 5 pm Tuesday with the winner of that one to enter the Series “A” quarter finals Wednesday at 3:30 pm against either North York Rangers or Niagara Falls. The winner of this match will meet in the “A” semi-finals Saturday at 1:30 pm. Games Saturday will see the “B” finals going at 5:30 pm and the “A” finals at 8:30 pm. Everything was pointing toward the best attend- ance figures ever Monday as the fifth annual Rich- mond Hill Tournaments Incorporated week-long hockey show kicked open its doors. Awards to the various in- dividual winners will be made Saturday at 8 pm. Sunday’s grand finale at 2 pm will pit the winner of the “A” and “B” series' against one another. Tournament President Frank Murphy said that attendance figures on the first day were up over last year with 1,726 spectators filing through the turnstile in 1972 compared to 1,434 on the first day of the 1971 tournament. Only one accident mar- red an otherwise injury- free tournament in its first two days. This occurred Tuesday when a player on the Ottawa Canadians broke his ankle. Murphy spoke glowineg of all of the tournament executive but particularly of the billeting committee comprising Mr. and Mrs. Bob Oakley and Mrs. Margaret Brickles. “They’ve done a tremendous job," 'he said. “It's very im- portant to the success of a tournament to have an efficient billeting service going for you“. “Excellent is about the best. word I can find." said Murphy. “Everything has run smoothly to date Without any major problems. We had to shift our schedule slightly to allow for the Richmond Hill Rams game Tuesday night but we were quite agree- able to that.” The 20 tons of food as provid- ed by the tournament com- mittee and served up by the Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary is also keeping the smiles coming from hungry eaters. The players are provided with lunch and dinner â€" Monday's lunch was homemade baked cc beans and weiners. Dinner was P; roast beef, baked potatoes, salad St ice cream and milk. m FRANK A.
