The AuthOrity's shareâ€"- $5.5 miluonzwas borne by Met~ ro Toronto and North York. The remaining $3.75 million was con- tributed by the provincial gov- ernment. The property will be official- ly taken over by the Authority in October†Metro will be al- lowed to sublease about 20 acres of the property to North York for development as a local park. but all plans for deveIOpment will have to be approved by the Authority. The Authority has already acâ€" quired lands to the north and sOuth of its recent purchase, and has constructed flood control channels on the west'branch of the Don River up stream and down stream of the property. At present. it is building the high Finch Dam and reservoir about five miles up stream of the area. Golf Course Acquired By Conservationists Both men will represent the Mormon church for a period of two years in Ontario. after which they will return home to resume their studies at univers- ity for their future vocations. For the past two months, he has been serving as a mission- ary in Kitchener. He will now work with Elder Richard Price, who is the district leader. over- Seeing missionary work for the Newmarket, Richmond Hill and Willowdale area. Elder Kenneth Rasmussen of Salt Lake City, Utah, has re- cently moved to the Thornhill area as a missionary with the Church of Jesus Christ of Lat- ter Day Saints (Mormon). New Mormon Elder For Thornhill Area The proposed rate for water service is 31c per 1.000 gallons plus whatever Metro charges for providing the water, which may Well double or triple that cost. The pmposed rate (including operating 'expenses) is 65¢ per 1,000 gallons for sewage serv- ice. Present cost in Richmond Hill‘ is 14.5c per 1.000 gallons. PROVINCE TO PAY The Pravince of Ontario will provide 15% of the gross capi- tal cost of stages 1 and 2. the rest of the cost (including in- terest) will be paid for by the municipalities involved, but the systems will remain the prop- erty of the province and under its control; Newmarket and Aurora. n0w lumped at 29,000, will have an eventual population of 50,000 and Southwest Pickering now at 23,000 will grow to 115,000. To- tal ultimate population for the area of the study will be 623,- 000 (present population is 128.- 900) about evenly divided be- tween Central York and Picker- ing. The North Pickering area (the new airport town) would have a population of 7.500 by 1980. 25.000 by 1985. 70,000 by 1990, 125.000 by 1995 and 200,- 000 ultimately. Ajax now at 120% will reach 40.000 and Pickering will double its pres: ent 2,500 population. Maple’s present population is given as 1.200 with the ultimate to be 5,000. Wood'bridge's pres- ent population of 2,500 will be allowed to grow to 20,000. THORNHILL EXPLOSION The North Fringe area (including Thornhill) with a present population of 16,000 will grow to 95.000 and the Markham-UniOnville area with 10,000 people now will go to 21.000. The ultimate (by 2000) popu- lation for Richmond Hill still appears at 67,000. the only dif- ference being that a separate figure of 5.000 has been allowed for Oak Ridges. Present popu- lation of Richmond Hill is list- ed at 29,000 and of the Oak Ridges area as 4,700. The report is based on popu- lation figures set by the To- ronto Centred Plan for Devel- opment. Total cost of the sewage works during the 22 years covered by the report is $90,- 365,000 and waterworks $37,- 490,000, based on current esti- mates â€" but may escalate if construction costs continue to spiral. of water purification plaflts at Pickering and Ajax at a cost of $5,000,000. Stage 4 (1985-94) will com- plete the servicing of North Pickering andrthe phasing out (Continued From Page 1) Stage 3 (1980-85), to cost $10,- 550,000, will complete the water supply system for Central York and extend it to the Town of Ajax. It will also provide addi- tional facilities for North Pick- ering. Water 8. Sewage Facilities Coming COST $90 MILLION At present Richmond Hill is paying the region an average of 25-26c per 1,000 gallons for its supply of water. The munic- ipalities will remain responsible for provision and maintenance of the internal distribution sys- tems. which will also increase the cost substantially. Someone else will be happy to buy any of those still good appliances which you no longer need. Reach for them fast and easy with a low cost Liberal Want- Ad. NEWMARKET: A happy event at the Wesley Brooks Conserva- tion Area was the hatching of four eggs by Pete and Repeat, the two swans. Three of the young birds have survived and are now out on the lake. The report claims that these undertakings will materially re- duce major sources of pollution in urban watercourses: direct growth and development as in- tended in the Toronto-Centred Region concept both north and east of Metro; materially re- duce the pressures on Metro for housing; facilitate the serv- icing of the new alrport com- plex; and finally, as originally intended, resolve the difficult servicing problems in the Cen- tral York area. The financial proposals are on the basis of full participation by all municipalities for both water and sewage services. The rates quoted are based on full participationwith expected pop- ulation projections realized.
