The accident happened at 11:15 pm.‘ Oak Ridges OPP report the cyclist was southbound on High- way 27 when she was struck by a northbound car driven by Roger Ederschlac of Nobleton Estates, Nobleton. The latter vehicle had just passed another northbound car accident. Provincial Constable Ian Rob ertson investigated the crash. Four persons were injured and damage totalled $1,600 Aug- ust 20 in a two-car collision on Highway 48, just north of 18th Avenue. LAND BOUGHT Last week, the provincial gov- ernment disclosed that it had bought up about 10 percent of the land it needs for the plan- ned city of North Pickering. The government'wantls 25,000 acres for the exgected 200,000 residents, at a cost of about $10 million or $4,000 an acre. ' zHarry Mitchell. who is in charge of the buying operations, said that the land acquired so far is mostly vacant or agri- cultural, with some houses. Under a new ruling by the province, people in the North Pickering area who sell their houses to the government will be able to live in them rent- free until January 1. 1975. Then they may get the chance to buy back. The offer. however, doesn’t apply to vacant land, or land larger than a building lot. Mr. Mitchell said more than half of the 1,200 properties have been appraised and every- one in the area will‘ have a chance to sell by the end of the year. although proviqcial au- thorities have warned they are not prepared to haggle. Witnesses at the scene of the accident, which injured 25 peo- ple, said two of the bus's. rear tires were almost bald. Contract Out Food Services For York Region Seconda" y Schools York County Board of Eduw cation will contract out its food‘ services for all but two of its secondary schools starting Sep- tember 5, it was announced at a meeting of the board August ‘28. Continuing under board oper- ation will be the cafeterias at Markham District and Rich- mond Hill High Schools. At the request of the principals, King City Secondary and Sutton Dis- trict High School will not be changed over until January 1, 1973. The operations at Richmond Hill and Markham will be re- tained. so that the board can compare the two services. The board said there will be no break in service for c‘afe- teria employees. and the rate of pay will be the same. There will be no cost or rev- enue to the board for the serv- ices of the catering companies. The latter will make their money from the amount of food sold at the schools.
