Sunday morning at Brown's Corners United Church the con- gregation welcomed back Rev. Allen Hallett. Mrs. Don Reesor played the organ. and there was a service of baptism for Mr. and Mrs. Bill Best's new baby girl. Catherine Anne. who arrived at their home early in July â€" a sister for Dannie and Ronnie. Church activities take on mo- mentum next week. Monday evening there will be meetings of the board of ses- sion and the stewards. Friends were sorry to learn last week of the death of Garnet Hastings Francey of RR 2. Gormley. who died August 30. at the Country Place Nursing Home. Richmond Hill. A widely attended service was held Saturday afternoon at the Melville United Church where Mr. Francey had served for many years. Mr. Francey suffered a stroke almost a year ago and had been in poor health since that time. Surviving are Mrs, Francey. the former Jessie Thomson: 3 niece. Mrs. Marjorie Harrison of Anacortes. Washington. and Dr. Robert Hastings Dreichbach of Palo Alto. California. Honorary pallbearers includ- ed old friends Dr. George Kelly Senior of Newmarket. Herbert Mortson and Adam Brown. One of Sharon Buchanan‘s ex- tra curricular activities this autumn will be teaching crafts to 7-12 year old boys and girls at a Tuesday evening class at Parkview School, Unionville. Church News Rev. Allen and Mrs. Hallett and Jane returned from their August vacation on Saturday of last week. They spent most of their time with relatives in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Montreal. Unfortunately Jane was ill with pneumonia for part of the time. The Arthur Hewitt Family spent an enjoyable holiday tour- ing the Maritimes this summer. Not the best weather. but ade- quate. The Bill Hoods visited the west coast this summer. and now they have a visitor from Merâ€" cer Island, Washington State. at their home. She is Miss Robin Hood, daughter of Bill‘s cousin Gordon Hood. who will remain with them for a time. On Sun- day evening family members were invited to the Hood home to greet her. Elmore Hill is still confined to Scarboro General. Mrs. Hill said Sunday his condition is im- proved. While her father is ill. Mrs. Florence Bowers of Brit- ish Columbia is here with her mother. John Donaldson. who spent! some time in Scarboro Hospitall for surgery. is home again andl doing well. according to report? Mrs. Alf Miller and Mrs. John Buchanan. who spent the past week in York Central Hospital for surgery. expected to be home again this week. Industry is taking over more and more south of Highway 7 on Don Mills. A building is being constructed immediately south of the Stots property for indus- trial purposes, and at the form- er Leaf property a sign states the land is for lease and the owner will build to specifica- tion. The last holiday of the sum- mer was less attractive than hoped for, and as a result traf- fic on Don Mills Road and else- where in the area was a mere trickle compared to other week- ends.
