It provided an excit- ing contest. Coach Ron Briden is fielding Thornhill's first Minor Novice team mine year oldst. It started sluggisth for the local lads. The heroics of Regan German between the uprights kept the score with- in bounds. I-lowever Thorn- hill marksmen were not with- out their chances and only a questionable offside decision stopped Steven Tschipper from a possible score. As the score was then at 2-0. it would have given the boys a great lift to have scored. From then on Thornhill settled down and the game took on a different com- plexion, The defense started playing a solid checking game. in particular, Tom Murphy who incidentally <crred Thl‘rnhill's only goal, Murphy played a solid game and kept his head up. However. the Thornhill squad finally clicked on a good pa<sing play between Grant Davidson and Kevan Goble. A few minutes later Goblc notched his second goal on a deflection of Davidson's shot. But this night belonged to German. who played an excellent game. Thornhill 6. Newmarket 5 A little snow didn‘t deter the Thornhill OMHA Minor Novice boys Friday night. After spotting the home team a goal. Ron Briden's team took on steam and rolled over the locals. Goble scored the first goal on a rebound off Troy Bradley‘s shot. Then Goblo put Bradley in the clear and he made no mis- take. Newmarket then came back with two quick goals to shock the Thornhill sons. Goble scored on a breakaway to tie the game. It then appeared as if our northern rivals had caught Thornhili in some Read-Mix as they bounced in a couple of scores. Only this time the lads in red roared hack and three more goals by Goble. the last assisted by Tschipper. put the New- market boys to bed pointless.
