Bond Steel 0 Bond Steel had a four- game winning streak stopped with sudden abruptness Dec- ember 6 in Oakville when they were defeated 3-0 by a well balanced, highly disci- plined Oakville club which played three periods of ex- cellent hockey. The only wonder of this contest was the score. which really flattered the Steelers. Oakville fired 3 shots on net. while the Hillers managed but eight. At times the game resembled a Coney Island shooting gallery around the visitors‘ net. The only statistic that Bond Steel edged Oakville was in the penalty parade as they were assessed 18 minutes to Oakville's six, down slightly from the team average of 23 minutes per game. Oakville scored its first goal midway through the first period after a Hiller took an extremely foolish penalty. The Oak- ville squad was not adverse to accepting such charity during this festive season and they promptly potted a goal. Up to that point the Steelers had been skating with this Triple "A" club, but after that goal, the en- tire atmosphere of the game changed, and Oakville simply took over complete control. Bond Steel 3 Alliston Midgets 2 The stock of Bond Steel went sky high as the boys displayed a remarkable re- versal of form to defeat Al- liston Midgets 3-2 in a league game in the new arena last Sunday. Coach Sil Steffan vowed. “We'll be ready for this team in the return game in the Hill", after Bond Steel had been defeated 5-0 in A1- liston November 15, and the team’s performance on Sun- day made Sil look like a prophet. Alliston. a fine midget club with good size and ex- cellent hockey sense who out- shot the Steelers 20-18. scor- ed twice in the first period to lead 2-0. The Hillers. however, refused to quit, and Bobby Russell finally scored in the second period on passes from Richard Camp- bell and Dave Berseth. Only minutes later Russell struck again as he scored unassisted to personally knot the game at 2-2. A pile up in front of the Alliston goal resulted in defenceman Dave Berseth. who never played a better game, slapping home the puck for the winning goal. The Steelers came out hit- ting in this game, and they skated for 60 minutes. Ber- seth and Jeff Miller were highly effective on defence. while Tony Robinson was flying the whole night. MIDGETS Thornhill 6. Legion 5 The Legionnaires came up with one of their better ef- forts in recent games and still managed to find a way to lose another one. How- ever. the hustle and drive which had ben sadly lacking for the last four or five games showed signs of re- turning. Even though the teams split in the first the locals held the margin of play and built up a 3-1 lead early in the second with two goals by Paul Hoogenboom who was set up by McDonald and Bolingbroke. Scott Davey had opened the scor- ing in the first with help from Don McPhee and Brill- inger. The locals sat on their 3-1 lead and before they could get going again Thornhill had popped in three unan- SNOW REMOVAL PRESENTED 5 BY O RICHMOND HILL 884-2916 0 THORNHILL AREA 889-3612 Residential Driveways swered goals to take a 4-3 lead by the end of the sec- ond and were never behind for the rest of the game. The teams exchanged two goals in the third with Steve Morrison and McPhee scor- ing for the locals. Rick Sack- field and Brillinger drawing assists. Legionnaires 7 Base Borden 3 It's surprising what proper attitude and desire can do to the outcome of a hockey game. The Legionnaires found this out Sunday after- noon, skating to a 9-3 victory over Borden. For the locals, who have had their problems in recent weeks, it was a complete tumabout, as they outclassed their opponents in all deâ€" partments. Tom Lamb led the way with two goals and two assists, his best effort of the season. The locals built up a three-goal lead in the first on goals by Brillinger. McDonald and Sackfield. Scott Davey sent the Legionnaires ahead 4-0 with assists going to Hoogen- boom and McDonald. 884-8401 SEE YOU THERE Kevin McKeage and Lamb each scored singles in the period. sending the clubs to the dressing rooms at the end of the second with the Legionnaires enjoying a 6-2 lead. Lamb rounded out the scoring in the third with his second goal, with Brillinger picking up his second assist. Steve Bolingbroke, Horvat. McDonald and Davey picked up single assists in the game. It would be impossible to pick a star in this one as every member of the club gave 100% effort. The Legionnaires’ next game is Friday night at 10 at Newmarket. Next Sunday the team gets a day off as the York-Simcoe All-Stars take on the Tri- County All-Stars in Milton at 2:30 pm.
