David Dyer, but family and friends succeeded in doing so November 24 at the Richmond Hill Free Method- ist Church on Hillsview Drive. What the pastor thought was to be the first night of a missionary confer- ence turned out to be a pro- gram on the theme, “This Is Your Life â€" Rev. David Dyer". Also taking part in the program were many friends, schoolmates and family mem- bers from Windsor, London, Kingston. Belleville, Athens. Timmins, Verona Welland. Barrie, Wyevale, Peterboro and Toronto. One of the biggest sur- prises for him was the pres- ence of Mrs. Lil Hall, Wye- vale, his primary school teacher. The honored pastor was presented with a plaque com- memorating the occasion and bearing the words, “We ap- preciate you. Friends and members of the Richmond Hill Free Methodist Church". Richmond Hill Free Methodists Honor Pastor Rev. David Dyer The drama club, after three weeks of read- ings, has decided to do “Berkeley Square†by James Bolderston. Rehearsals will begin immed- iately and continue for the next four months. The play revolves around a young man who travels back in time to the England of the 1800’s. Just to alleviate any fears of literary incomp- etence, the finished article definitely need not be a polished work of art, and the range of topics is wide open. For example: sports, art, music, cartoons or humorous essays, the activities of various clubs, opinions concerning the education system or any aspect of current events â€" whatever you find to be of the least bit of interest (within reason) will be thankfully appreciated. It is 'far too easy to sit back in a resigned slump. If there are complaints or suggestions they should be made known, otherwise no change should be expected as no change has been de- served. Tim Buell, who along with Steve Tennant, founded the paper in grade 9, hopes to turn out approximately six issues this year. But their existence of course will depend on the number of people who voluntarily put pen to paper. The paï¬er-c‘an also be used as a means through which suggestions for improvement or critigirsmszof school policy can be voiced. The school newspaper “Optimum†is this year celebrating its third year of publication. Three years may not seem a very great length of time to some, but considering the amount of student support the paper has received in the past, it is an accomplishment worth noting. ?Wm Christmas Third Year For “OPTIMUM†WE DELIVER TO TORONTO & SURROUNDING DISTRICTS FLOWERS WIRED ANYWHERE High Lights Laurelea Flowers OXFORD SQUARE PLAZA Come in and see our wide selection of cut flowers, plants, artificial and fresh arrangements 330 YONGE ST. In all some 250 friends. members of the congregation and out-of-town guests wish- ed Mr. Dyer many more happy years of service in God's work. Mrs. Olive Park presented to the library a replica of a statue of Socrates in the Brit- ish Museum on behalf of the students leaving the school in 1932, inscribed in memory of Miss Edna 'I " ; who taught English an‘ V'I’History at Richmond Hill for many years and who died a year ago. 1‘ Board Sets Fees For Non-Supporters At its meeting December 5. the York County Roman Catholic School Board set the fee per child at the basic rate for the first child, $100 for the second child and $30 for the third and additional children in a family. The basic rate is the difference between the provincial grant and the cost of educating a child. which is at present about $150 a year. Children of non-supporters of separate schools will be accepted in Roman Catholic Schools in York County pro- viding there is room for them and that a fee is paid. The Fire Chief urges all parents to recognize the fire danger of this season and not to leave small children alone in the home even for a mo- ment. He points out that the Criminal Code of Canada forbid; such action which en- dangers the life or health of any child under the age of 10 years. Parents are further re- mlinded that under certain conditions a Christmas tree can ‘be ignited by a single match to burn furiously Ito charred wood in a few sec- onds. Care must be taken to keep butts of natural trees immersed. in- water and to ensure that the three itself does not obstruct access to a door or window. Families are also urged to review their home fireâ€"escape plans for quick exit in an emerg- ency.
