Ajax lied it. went ahead 3-2 and then 4â€"2 on Field- ing’s goal at 17:49 of the qocond period. Enter Carr‘s problems. Carr attempted to pounce on the puck and smother it at the corner of his not but it squirted through his gloves and new.“ the goalmouth to a looring Fielding who just pushed it into the twines. Hill made it 4-3 at 19:09 01' the same period on a screen shot with assists go- ing to Jim Clement and Pat llughvs. What turned out to be llichmnnzl llill's final hurrah 01' the night came at 4:51 of the third period when they tied it an another screenshot :is- Bunuau‘ scared from Pirus at 4:5]. Then came more trouble. l’irus came out of his not to attempt to smother a puck at 7:09 only to have 11 Ram slap the puck as he reached for it. The wilful littlc disk slipped between his legs and =1ilhercil cooly into the not. Conlnnl received credit for 1he score. Ajax tcok little time start- ing the night‘s dol‘cful evmts scoring 57 seconds after the game got underway with Fielding doing the honors. He was taken out at the 9:11 mark for Bob Clement who was in the twines for the final two Ajax goals. Leading the Ajax offen- sive was John Fielding with three goals followed by Bernie Johnson with two and singles by Bob Marlow, Al Contant and Don Nicholson. Scoring for the Rams was evenly divided between Craig Terry. Dave "Digger" Dunkloy, Dave Hill, Bob Bangay. and Alex Pirus. Especially Richmond Hill Rams' Coach Karl Brimble- comb Tuesday night as he watched his charges bumble to an 8-5 defeat at the hands of lowly Ajax in a Provincial Junior "A" contest at the chal arena. The Rams couldn't do too much right especially on de- fence. Having one of his rougher nights since joining the Rams was Goalie Gary Carr‘ who argued and bickered with a flighty puck through most of the game. The puck just wouldn't co-operate with him on three of the six goals against him. He didn't get too much help from his teammates. l i To be pursued in this article are the news and events of Langstaff Secondary. In the sports field, our four basketball teams are faring well. As of Monday the junior girls’ team had a start- ling record of four wins and no losses and were in first place in York County South. The senior girls had a three-win and one-loss record and also held a first place position in our league. Il‘ )lt ill ll! 3* 'T‘L- ...:,J._AL .....J L. Richmond Hill PART TIME REQUIRED Talk around school now is of the coming LSS Student Association Directorate elections. The outgoing directorate consists of President Glen Barnden. Directors Josephine Matyas and Kim Derry, Secretary Ruth Harper, Treasurer Gail Shearer, Girls’ Athletic Directors Jan John- son and Boys’ Athletic Director Doug Wincester. Congratulations on their jobs! The names of the candidates for the new directorate are in some cases familiar, as well as new. There are four people running for the position of president at this point. Victorious as well were the Juniors, with a close score of 39-35. Langstaff held a fairly sub- stantial lead until the third and fourth periods. Markham started to come back, and held their opposition to only four points in the third period. High scorer was Marco Kovacic with 18 points, and the whole junior team provided an enjoyable and exciting contest. A “BB” Discotheque was featured in the cafeteria both nights after the games. It seems that Jan Johnson, who did fantastic work as GAD, has decided she is going to imple- ment a constitutional change if she gets elected. Ron St. Eve. a well known figure in Langstaff, has definitely decided to run for the presidential position. Dave Saunders. a grade 11 student, and Gary Gregoire, who is in grade 12, are in conten- i tion and should provide for an even more inter- i estinu election. 1 The midget and junior boys‘ teams have played two league games each. On December 15 the midgets lost a hard fought game to Thornhil-l, in a doubleheader. The second game saw our juniors defeat Thornlea in a close, well-played game. Langstaff hosted Markham in another doubleheader Friday night of last week. The midgets won by a score of 33-24, Kevin Todd being high scorer with 11 points and Tony Gibson having a good game. Josephine Matst is seeking re-election as one of the directors. Ruth Harper and Gail Shearer are running again for their respective positions of secretary and treasurer. Gail Neale, who 'an for GAD in the last election, is once more going to try for office. Also up for election is the position of chair- man of the dance committee. Co-chairmen Debbie Mesure and Calvin Sauro did a good job of organizing: the two dances that we had this year. and the Coffee House as well. No candi- (lates_have been declared for the position as yet. Next week, more news, plus “a special sc'oop on this year’s coming Free School. That’s it. As I sit here trying to think of something to start with in my first column, I remember all those lessons in English class on writing expos- itions. Frist point: arouse the reader's interest. Second point: state your thesis. Third point: write coherent paragraphs, each with a definite topic. Fourth point: conclude your story in a way that it will be impressed upon the reader.
