Milsted Telephone 887-5445 WEDNESDAY 1-“““““““ About $50,000 damage was done to the building, $30,000 to the laminating machine and $15,000 to stock. The first occurred in a basement bedroom at the home of Ben Hails, 250 Mc- Convey Drive, just seven days after an $8,000 fire at 253 McConvey Drive. The fire at the Hails’ residence, which was believ- to have been caused by spontaneous combustion. was discovered by Mr, Hails’ son, who smelled smoke about 3:50 am and woke the rest of the family and called the fire department. Damage has been estimat- ed at $95,000 in a fire at General Laminating Corpor- ation Limited, 147 Centre Street East, May 30. According to Richmond Hill Fire Department, the fire broke out about 12:15 pm when an overhead light on the assembly line near the glue pit, broke and ignited some highly flammable glue, used to laminate some ply- wood material. The conceIT will start at 2 pm with the Richmond Hill High Band playing for the first 15 minutes. Featured among the artists will be Pianist Berry Ander- son Ignatief of Ottawa and Violinist Metro Kozak of Sudbury, both returning to town to play for friends and relatives. Both are nationally known musicians. They also spent some time in a Spanish Tourist Theatre, where an M.C. (Scott Veitch), introduced the acts. These included the exploits of that knight- errant, Don Quixote, (Bill Honeyman) and his faithful Squire Sancho Panza (Malcolm Jardine), as well as some very good dancing by Louise Clark, Lilly Battaglia, Jody Hatch, Diane Hodg- son and Anne Wynne._ The members of the RHHS Band and orch- estra and the grade 9 band and string orchestra did a number of excellent pieces throughout the programme, as did the four individual soloists. Tim Buell and Mark Crawford each played two classical guitar numbers, while David McCartney and Karen Wright both did very good piano the show. pieces. Quite recently I bought about a billion blades from one of our well-known stores and put them in all over the garden, the idea being I wanted to tune in with the young people who turn on and off. I wanted to ex- perience this phenomena for myself. So having scat- tered my billion blades I waited two months. Then I sat down and turned off. And then. being awe struck. I was turned on by the love- ly lawn. I purchased these billion blades of long green for around $3.65. Thank God for a lovely lawn to sit down on to relax or. if you like. to turn off, but this really turns me on. Neighborhood Notes While out for a ramble Sunday morning, I was am- azed at the great amount of lilacs in bloom. They are standing out in the hedge- rows in lovely white and mauve, outstanding indeed this year for color and per- fume. Another lovely sight I noticed was the forget-me- nots on the lawn at Mrs. George Barker’s. The green and the blue blended richly indeed. Further along we had the joy of sitting in the middle of the stream to lis- ten to the bubbling brook as it merily went on its way. Also, under a piece of wood. a mouse nest. A meticulous marvelous mother had made the nest of â€" what do you think? â€" the fluff of dande- lions seeds. How could a boy mouse go astray with the mother like that? Recently Harry and Georgie Burton visited Guelph to atâ€" tend the graduation cere- mony for Richard and Jo- anne who now received a BA degree. Congratulations! While cutting the lawn IaSt Saturday week, I pulled a small plow onto the lawn to out behind it. It then proceeded to pull the mower backwards, at the same time falling backwards over the plow. My left foot as I fell went under the mower and my shoe was completely out in half right across the sole. My sock also was cut off my foot. I feel as I give thanks that my guardian angel was working overtime for a few seconds at least. Do you be- lieve in guardian angels? Look in your Bible to Heb- rews Chapter 1 verse 14. A very nice couple called to _see us on Sunday with the excellent name â€" the name was Tucker. Don't you think that they were fortunate to have such a good one? The wife’s name used to be Bernice Czyzew- ski, who was once a pupil of the school at Headford and local resident. As they were going. as a last jesture. I asked Bernice if she would like to hear once again the old school bell, that once sounded out a note of judg- ment for children. Now for adults, it is a sound of charm and grace and full of memory. If any old Hed- fordians would like to hear the bell ringing when you have friends for the week- end, we would not mind ringing it a few times, if you give us due warning.
