Malcolm Peake is a trustee on the York County Roman Catho- lic School Board. The convention conveyed a positive View of the fami- ly; a view that sees the fa- mily as a most favorable si- tuation in which a person may find love and accep- tance, a sense of self-worth and identity, freedom and personal security. POSITIVE VIEW This positive view of the family was conveyed not only through the speakers and workshops â€"â€" people such as Chuck and Jan Kra- mer. cotherapists and direc- tors of The Family Institute of Chicago, offering sugges- tions on how the modern fa- mily can form a more per- fect union; Father Bill Ryan, a former Canadian, now chairman of the US. Bi- shops Subcommittee On Pc- pulation Policy, speaking on a “Social Justice Approach To The Population Prob- lem”, to better prepare the group for the United Na- tions’ World Population Conference in August 1974; and Richard Lesser, author of "Love, Marriage and Pos- tage Trading Stamps", lea- ding the 2,000 present in communication experiences and sharing ways to better family talking and listening â€" but also by providing for the participants a kind of open-family experience, for early in the convention small groups of families were formed, containing two words parent families, Single persons and single parent families who learned and Worked and just enjoyed being together. Thus, the developing pro- cess of the weekend was a dynamic one in which those attending were presented with the challenge: can we renew our commitment to and for the Christian fami- ly? Can we accept Christ again as an integral person in our families?? NATIONAL CFM At the Canadian National CFM executive meeting, held in Sarnia, prior to the convention at Notre Dame, Malcolm and Frances Peake were elected Canadian Na- tional Chaircouple of the Christian Family Movement. and Father Gerald Reilly of Regina was elected the new national chaplain. “The effects on couples and their families is what makes involvement in CFM so important today,” say the Peakes. As most emotional problems begin in marriage and the family system, and as nearly every husband and wife, at least at some time in their marriage, needa great deal of help in preven- ting the breakup of their marriage, in keeping their relationship alive and dyna- mic. then some. perhaps much, of that help can be Richmond Hill’s Malcolm Peake Family is seen above (left to right) Angela, Frances, (Baby) Duncan, Veronica, Malcolm and Chris- topher, with Father Gerry Reilly of Regina, Saskatchewan, newly appointed CFM National Chaplain. Her name This year’s planned trip is to a very unusual place but one that arouses interest in most everyone, Russia. It’s a chance in your lifetime and possibly one day no one will be able to enter Russia, due to the fact that it’s rapidly being run by Communists. If you are interested in being included in this trip you’ll have to find out if there is room left, and pick up an applica- tion from the office. I can’t promise you any- thing, but there’s no harm in trying and possibly they’ll make different arrangements. For those who are signed up for the trip, I’m sure you’ll be glad you went. This year we have quite a different surprise in store for you. If you enjoy the sound of those great old Scottish bagpipes, here’s your chance to experience them and maybe, you’ll become famous at them. If you’re interested in this activity, see Mr. Bownlee upstairs in the History department. Its new and you’d prob- ably like it and the best possible way you’d be helping us out, is by coming out to this club and helping to make it the success we hope it to be. Friday was initiation day for our grades 9’s. It was a day of excitement for all grades, and for those of you who did the initiating. They will remember what they went through. Every- one enjoyed it, and will never regret it. After all we all went through it and will be going through it. The initiation dance was more or less a con- tinuation of Friday resulting in a lot of exhausted kids. You couldn’t get any better fun for a cheaper price. er, and Andrea. Jenkinson for his visits and to Dr. B. Granton and the nurses on the 4th floor of York Central Hospital, also to the ladies of Head- ford Church and the Mar- shall Funeral Home. The Peakes feel very op- timistic about the future of CFM in Canada. because of the strength and depth that can develop in couples’ and family relationships as a re- sult of involvement in the formation process that can occur in small CFM groups of couples and their families and their chaplain. More important, ‘CFM involvement can help couples and their families grasp even more fully the meaning of that responsibility as couples and families â€" the responsibili- ty of keeping the Christian vision of marriage and fami- ly life aliVe in their homes, their community, and in the larger world. AURORA: Rayel Construction Limited has demanded that the town issue building per- mits for a planned high-rise apartment and townhouse de- velopment on Wellington Street West, in obedience to a Supreme Court order issued May 1972 which calls upon the town to issue the permits “upon sanitary treatment services or facilities being available". Although it has received “preliminary” ap- proval for expanding these facilities, the town still has to obtain final approval from the province and from the OMB. After that it will take at least six months before construction can start. SHARON: East Gwiilimbury Council has decided to in- spect a dump on Concession 5. belonging to York Sanita- tion Co. on complaint of a neighbor. Joe Fenniger claims that after the dump is closed people dump garbage on his property, sometimes as high as six feet, although it is posted “No Trespassing" and “No dumping". He also said the dump is at least 15 feet too high and is not spread and covered regularly. Another problem is people who come to the dump to shoot rats and end up shoot- ing up adjacent properties. 3111 MPmnriam SEE OUR WANT ADS. c1w13
