Women‘s Institute The October meeting of the WI was held on Tuesday evening of last week at the home of Mrs. Harry Barber with members of the Wex- ford WI as the visitors. President John McCague of the Victoria Square group and Secretary Mrs. Earl Empringham presented Mrs. Barber with a Life Member- ship and Pin. Mrs. Barber was completely taken 'by sur- prise. She has been a mem- ber of the Women's Institute for over 40 years, having first been a member of Wex- ford before moving here to Victoria Square where she has been a member of the local group for a number of years. Mrs. Helen Minaker and Mrs. Dorothy Walton of Wex- ford gave an account of the Women's Institute Conven- tion held in Banff this past summer which they had the privilege of attending. They also showed colored slides of their trip which were verV interesting. Old English Tea The annual Old English Tea sponsored by the Gorm- ley-Headford-Victoria Square Branch of the YCHA will be held in the Victoria Square Community Centre on Octo- ber 24 from 2-4:30 pm. There will also be a bazaar and bake sale. Everyone is invited to attend and to help this worthy cause. ChurCh News The flowers in the church on Sunday morning were in loving memory of Mrs. Mona Joyce who passed away on October 17. 1972. They were placed there by her family. Rev. Charles Wamatu was the guest preacher and offi- ciating minister at the Com- munion Service. the UCW will be held on October 24 at 8:00 pm at the home of Mrs. Harry Barber. Miss Velma Brillinger who has just returned home after serving 19 years on the mis- sion fields in Africa will be the guest speaker and will show slides of her work there. All the ladies in the community and surrounding area are invited to attend. A speedy recovery is wished for Mrs. Irwin Friedel and to Mrs. Wesley Clark who underwent surgery last week in York Central Hospi- tal and to Carl Walker who is also in the same hospital for further treatment.
