22 THE LLLLLL L, Richmond Hill, Ontario, Thursday, Nov. 1, 1973 Drug Traffic Jury Trial For Two Youths Two young men in York Region drug court at New- market October 19 were committed to York County Court in Metro for judge and jury trial on drug traf- ficking charges. Altogether there were close to 160 drug charges on the docket at the monthly regional drug ses- sion that day. Twentyâ€"two young people pleaded guilty ‘to drug char- ges. They were all convicted and fined amounts ranging from $10 to $100. Michael McLennan. 27. of Richmond Hill and Brad- ford elected to be tried by judge and jury on a June 15 charge of having marijuana for the purpose of traffic. BY INDICTMENT Federal Prosecutor Lauâ€" rence Papoff proceeded against. McLennan by indict» ment. McLen‘nan admitted there was enough evidence for his committal for trial and waived the hearing of evidence at the preliminary hearing. MPrbvv'anial Judge Claire Morrison senrt McLen‘nan on to trial. Donald Butler, 25, of 1049 Military Trail, West Hill. elected judge and jury trial on four drug trafficking charges and pleaded inno- cent WAIVES HEARING Federal Prosecutor Papoff proceeded by indictment. Butler admitted there was sufficient evidence for his committal and waived the hearing of evidence at pre- liminary hearing. Judge Morrison sent Burt- ler on to trial and issued a warrent for the arrest of Butl'er‘s co-accused Peter Soucie who failed to appear. Butler June 16 was charg- ed with having the restricted drug MDA for trafficking purposes at Sibbald Park, for having MDA at Georgina for trafficking purposes, for hav- ing controlled barbiturate drugs at Georgina for traf- ficking purposes, and for hav- ing marijuana and hashish for purposes of trafficking in Georgina. Kenneth Dobratz, 17. of RR 3, Stouffville was fined $50 or five days when he adâ€" mitted having marijuana at 11:42 am August 2 at Mount Albert School in East Gwil- limbury. When he pleaded guilty, another charge was withdrawn. George Barker, 22, of 10 Esterbrooke Avenue, Will- owdale was fined $25 or five days jail, with time to pay. He admitted having mari- juana and hashish in a car that was stopped at 1:10 am February 19 at Aurora. When he pleaded guilty. a charge against his co-accused John Blaikley was withdrawn. Kirk Purcell, 18, of Lake Wilcox and 48 Holland Street East. Bradford, was fined $50 or five days jail, with two weeks to pay. POLICE CHECK Purcell admitted being caught with marijuana and hashish when his car was stopped by police in a rou- tine vehicle check at 10:15 pm August 4 in Richmond Hill. Donald Holobeck. 21. of 52 Miramar Drive. Scarboro was fined $50 or five days jail. with 15 days to pay. He admitted having marijuana September 2 at Sibbald‘s Park in Georgina Township. Police found the "grass" on a car roof and in Holo- beck's pocket when they were called to a campslte to inves- tigate a noise complaint, the court was told. He admitted having 8.5 grams of marijuana when caught at 1:45 am June 17 in a car at the A and W Restaurant in Aurora. UNLUCKY FRIDAY 13th Kenneth Willis. 16. of 506 Queen Street East, was un- lucky Friday, July 13 at Newmarket when he was caught with a plastic bag of marijuana in a car at Fairey Lake Park. Willis pleaded guilty and was fined $50 or 10 days jail with 30 days to pay. A sec- ond charge was withdrawn. Howard Breen. 19, of 1660 Bathurst Street. Toronto, was fined $50 or five days jail. He admitted possession of a bag of marijuana thrown from a car Septem- ber 9 in the conServation area at Newmarket. HASHISH PIPE Brian Noftle, 18. of 211 Dupont Street, Toronto, was fined $50 or five days jail. with two weeks to pay. They were Mark Evans, 18, of 262 Stanley Street, New- market and Daniel Maskell, 17, of 124 Sheldon Avenue, East Gwillimbury. John Crossley, 17. of New- market was fined $25 or five days jail. with two weeks to pay. He admitted having 27 grams of marijuana in his bedroom when caught at 10:45 am September 28 in Newmarket. FOUND INNOCENT Raymond Maclam. 19. of 212 Davis Drive. Newmarket pleaded innocent to a charge of having marijuana July 11 in Newmarket. The charge was dismissed when police told the court the illicit drug was found covered with dust in the trunk of Maclam’s car. Maclam testified he'd lent his car several times to friends in the weeks before his arrest when caught in a police check of his vehicle.
