A throught-provoking film was shown, followed by discus- sion. and a business meeting. Hostesses Mrs. Harvey Brown and Mrs. Eleanor Walker planned the program and served delightful re- freshments. , Last weekend Mrs. Don Reesor and Mrs. Marguerite Jones were at Cedar Glen, the United Church recreatio- nal centre, for a music semi- nar. Mrs. George Kelly of New- market, the Buttonville WI historian, was gilest speaker Wednesday of last week when WI members met at Buttonville hall for the re- gular meeting. Her topic was on old homes in the area. particularly the William Ba- ker House on Bu-ttonville Crescent West. Mrs. Richard Pralet presented a com- prehensive report on the re- cent convention held by the Central Ontario Women's Institutes at the Royal York Hotel. Two community members are in hospital this week â€" Mrs. Reg. Allen was taken to Scarboro Centenary Hos- pital Friday of last week, and Bill Palmer is in York Central Hospital. A funeral service was held at the Ogden Funeral Home, Sheppard Avenue, Agin- court, November 26, with Rev. Allen Hallett officiat- ing. Friends learned last week- end of the death of Mrs. Wm. McGimpsey at the Rosebank Nursing Home. Mrs. McGimpsey and ‘her husband were well loved members of this community for many years. After her husband's death some years ago Mrs. McGimpsey lived with Lher daughter's family in Scarboro until her health failed. She will long be remem- bered for her Work in the Buttonville Women's Insti- tute and at Brown's Corners United. The Douglas Clarkes have left their home on Hughson Drive and have purchased a new home on Weber Drive in Carlton Village at Union- ville. The Buttonvllle Women’s Institute will hold a Christ- mas Luncheon and party at the hall, December 12 at noon. A11 designed to celebrate the Christmas Season. The Buttonville Branch of YCHA will hold a benefit sale of baking and hand- made articles and a euchre at Buttonville WI Hall, December 7 at 8 pm, with proceeds for York Central Hospital. Sunday December 9, at 11 am is White Gift Sunday, and December 23 the Christ- mas Service at 11 am and the CGIT Candlelight Ser- vice at 7:30 pm. Neighborhood Notes 330 Yonge St. N. Oxford Square The UCW will hold a pot luck luncheon and Christmas Program at the church De- cember 5, with small gifts presented for a charitable organization. THE LIGHT SHOP Next Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent, there will be a special service in the morning at Brown's Corners United Church, and begin- ning at 5:30 pm there will be a pot luck supper followed by the making of three de- corations and a decoration party. At 8:30 pm there will be a carol sing around the tree to complete the evening. Christmas Lights and even Christmas Trees are begin- ning to show up around the countryside, and Christmas Programs are planned.
