10 MRS. REG ALLEN Last week the community mourned the passing of Mrs. Reg (Rene) Allen whose death occurred November 29, at Scarboro Centenary Hospital after a lingering illness. At Brown's Corners Und- bed Church she was still planning handcrafms far CGIT work in October, but was unable to carry on. In the narthex of the church there is a beaufljful banner which she and ‘her close friend, Mrs. Alfred Miller, designed and crafted last year. And many were the pies and cakes taken to com- munity affairs rho raise funds for the WI. A cfuneral and committal service were held at the Dixon Funeral Home, Main Streem North, Markham, at 2 pm December 1, wiilh Rev. Allen Hallebt officiating. Mrs. Allen leaves her hus- band Reg, daughters Betty (Mrs. Clifford Goodman of Ottawa), Susan, (Mrs. Donald Gohn of Un-ionvflle) and Gina at home, and six grand- children. Church News ‘ Christmas was ushered in at Brown's Corners United Church last Sunday wiilh a special service for the first day of Adrvem. Donna Cun- ningham lint the first candle, Jack ‘Gough was soloist dur- ing the senior choir anfihem, and Rev. Allen Hallett preached a film: sermon. Mrs. Allen left behind her a heritage which will not be quickly forgotten. Her de- dication to the York Central Hospital Auxiliary Where she served 50 faithfully was legend and at Brown's Cor- ners United Church and the Buttonville Women's Insti- tute her work was unique. Alferd Miller brought briglht materials of all description with instructions for the making, and families worked: in groups 'to concoct fetching decorations-bells. small mice. beautiful balls, Santa Clau- New neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Peter Polly who live north of the bridge at But- tonville had a fine at their home last week, when grease in a deep-fry pan caught fire. The final game was played October 23. with 23 tables of flavors present. Winners that night were Miss Elizabeth French. Mrs. Andrew Wood, Mrs. Jim Eddington. Mrs. Evelyn Brewer, Harvey Swain, Russ Burr, Matt Da- vie (who was celebrating a birthday) and Bob Rise- brough. Friday evening them will be a euchre party at Button- ville WI Hall sponsored by the YCHA with proceeds for the hospital. There will be a sale of handcrafits, home baking etc.. and the game will start at 8:30 pm. ses â€" you name it -- and all energy free. A merry Christmas party. _ 7 Next Sudday'wiu be Whi-te Gift service art 11 am. Neighborhood Notes Ted and Ellen Gough of Mind'en were overnight guests at the home- of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gough last weekend. 'I‘vheir daughter Debbie is staying with her grandparents this year and attending Ryerson. The winter series will commence shortly after the new year. 5 mp to London to visit h'is sister Sharon, a student at Western University. Recently Miss. Rhea Scott and Mrs. Sidney English were pleased to have a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Alex Burns, former nesidents who now live in British Columbia. Don and Dorothov Reesor and their family and Mrs. Douglas Hood were guests at the Harold Stgffler’s new home at Brussels recently. The Buttonville WI will meet at the Hall for a des- sert luncheon and Christmas parny December 12 at 1 pm. Mrs. George Kelly, Mls. Richard Pralet and Mrs Aubrey Stephenson will hostesses. Euchre Grand Prize Bill Swain mock the grand prize for the autumn euchre series. sponsored by Batten- ville WI with a grand total of 472 for five games. Draws were won by Mrs. Winmifred Elson and Jim Grainger, and the freezeout went 170 Milton Sherman and Matt Davie. Roy and Bernice 'I‘ooley.
