John Do- naldson, Brian Carr and Laurie Stewart read the Christmas story, and mem- bers of the junior class, led by Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Stewart. presented a short skit: The Story of White Gifts. There was a beautiful white gift service at Brown's Corners Church Sunday, with the Sunday school children assisting Rev. Allen Hallett. There were handicrafts and home baking snapped up almOst as soon as the booths were opened, and 24 ftables of players joined in euchre playing. Winners were Mrs. John Brown. Mrs. Erlby .Gooderham, Mrs. Gordon Colton, Mrs. Gertude Simp- son, Andrew Wood, Ray Coffey, Walter Craig and Don Brodie. Lucky draws were won by Erlby Gooder- ham. Don Brodie, Mrs. Isa- bel Vance. Following luncheon Mrs. Walter Craig chaired the meeting. and members gave Christmas readings. 'Mrs. Reesor played the organ and led in a carol sing. Hostesses were Mrs. Douglas Hood and Mrs. Fred Billingsley. Friends were sorry to learn that Mr. Russell Boy- ington was taken to Sunny- brook Hospital early Thurs- day morning last week when his heart pacer failed. A new one has been inserted and Mr. Boyington is making good progress. Successful Benefit Although public school Pupils will be returning to classes after the Christmas Holidays on January 3. Roman Catholic school pupils in York will not be back in the classrooms un- til January 7. It will be a different story for the teachers in the Roman Catholic schools, however, as they will be attending a two- day seminar on language arts and communication at the Finch Campus of Se- neca College. York Coun- ty Roman Catholic School Board learned December 0n the agenda will be literature. speech and oral language. theatre arts, grammar and spelling. writing, learning through listening. social studies and multi-media learning with a resource team of people from the Ministry of Education, the Ontario Education Communications authority and the Institute of Child Studies, bringing the latest information and developments in these areas Assistant Superintendent Frank Robesich is in charge of the arrange- ments and reported to the Board that he had been able to secure the accom- modation at Seneca for a nominal fee and that the cafeteria would be open for those attending.
