The latest shipment is comprised of books which will appeal to a wide range of readers. Best-sellers such as "Burnt Offerings” by Robert Maesco; mysteries like “Sleeping Beauty" by Ross Macdonald; soon to be a movie “Oklahoma Crude" by! Marc Norman. and Gothics such as “The Devil of Aske" by Pamela Hill are only four of the books which have just arrived. Other titles newly avail- able are: “The Florentine" by Sandra Shulman, "Tyler's Row" by Miss Read. “Sadie Shipiro's Knitting Book" by Robert Kimmel Smith, “Good-bye to Yesterdzw" by Arlen Hale. Dillinger Plays For Christmas Dance Friday Christmas is coming to Thornhill Secondary, tomorrow (Friday) at 8 pm in the form of a dance. “Dillinger” will be on hand to provide the music. So come out and have a good time. This is the social event ,of the season! If you feel like a stuffed turkey, it is no wonder! Beaver Foods served their annual High School Christmas Dinner yesterday. A turkey dinner with all the trimmings is refreshing fare compared to the customary sandwiches. The teachers are providing a harness to keep us in check during the pre-Christmas season, what with their remarks about this being the beginning of term two and a chance to turn over several new leaves. Some of the convenors have been putting positive suggestions on the score sheets to include in the article. Outstanding defensive play, etc., can- not be picked up from the score sheets. Lee scored the second to make it 2-0. Greg Chesser also scored the first and last goals, but for the opposing Deluca. Both assists were from Joey Magnacca. Kevin Walmarc Wood 2 Delco Tool/SPM 1 Walmarc Wood and Delco Tool played an exciting 2-1 game, with second place Walmarc turning up another win. Bruce Catoen opened for Walmarc. Bobby Pople from Barry Cull and Dwayne Parkin answered. With hopes never dimming, Walmarc showed their stuff and Steven McFarlane from Catoen notched the winner. Poly-Converters 5 Tudor Glen Homes 0 John Davidson in the Poly nets gets his second shut-out in a row in a 5-0 win over Tudor Glen Homes. Larry DeMarco scored twice and assisted on one. Cameron Faulds got two goals. Joe Danckert opened the scor- ing. Mike Havery and Craig Still both got assists. Willowdale Rotary 2 7-Up 2 After an almost scoreless first period, 7-Up's Warren Butt. assisted by Ed Brown opened the game. Ted Kirk- patrick from John Cameron turned it into a tie. The winner came from the stick of Ronnie Claringbold. assisted by Mike Darby. Normac Kitchens 3 Deluca Dental Lébs 3 Although Normac led throughout the first period and most of the second, Del- uca broke their losing streak with this tie and slowed down first place Normac just a little. B. Guthrie, Jr., “A Natural Year" by Grace Firth, "The Defection of A. J. Lewinter" by Robert Littell and “Miss Seeton Sings" by Heron Carvic. Large-print books enable many visually handicapped people to read for pleasure once again. The books are reset in a type more than twice the size of the stan- dard edition and yet the Large Print Books them- selves are the same size and weight as the original edi- tions. Although readers at all three branches have been borrowing large-:print books eagerly, we are constantly striving to inform all people in the area served by the Town of Markham Libraries, of this worthwhile publish- ing program. With this latest shipment we now have over 200 titles in Large Print. Surely we have something for everyone. We urge friends and relatives to select copies for those who are often times unable to come to the library them- selves. John McLellan from Brian Masson followed quickly with‘ the second. Ron Caughlin from Ken Curley opened, after a scoreless first period. l CARRIER Dunn and Daurio put the icing on the cake with a couple more and the score was six goals for Canac ag- ainst the first place Buckler with one more to come from the insurancemen. Mark Jonak answered in the final minute. Marshall’s Shell 5 Disera Motels 5 Disera Motel kept the spectators on their feet for 40 minutes, as they partici- pated in another cliffâ€" hanger. The final tying goal went against them this week. John Beck was a standout defenseman for this revitalized Disera team. The second period began with the tying goal by Scott Jarvie, assisted by Robin Culley. This tie lasted only a couple of minutes until Jim Belch, assisted by Bruno Colucci and Allan made the game equal again. After an almost scoreless first period, Andrew Hey- land opened. assisted by John Dunn. Paul Dewling followed to end the period 2-0. Andrew Marcus from John McCarthy made it 2-1. Canac then put four unan- swered goals in the net, just to prove their first period lead was no flukex Stewart Breithaupt from Dewling and Rick Daurio scored first. Don Poscente from Dunn and Heyland followed. Rory Allen notched his first hat-trick of the season, with the final goal tying the game when the clock still had one second to tick, al- though a chanting Disera bench called the final sec- onds a little ahead of the clock. Stephen Boyd from An- drew Quinn opened th’e scor- ing in the first minute for Marshall's Shell. Randy Webb, assisted by Scott Fotheringham tied the game, only to see Allen from Quinn and Brian Jones make it 2-1 for Marshall‘s to end the first period. Canac Kitchens 8 Buckler Insurance 2 Canac Kitchens gave Buck- ler~their first loss of the season. The Canac giant killers are ow only one point short of second place. This spirited Disera bunch took the lead at this point. with David Shepherd fol- lowed by Culley making it 4â€"3 for them. With two minutes remaining in the game. Allan began his pur- suit of a hat trick. Stephen Wildish helped him in this endeavor. With only 38 seconds left, the opposing Number 7, Fotheringham snatched the tie away, and Disera was exhuberant. A1- lan from Bird and Belch thought better of it. and got themselves a tie when the clock said there was still one second in the game. This was a second Week of excitv ing play at the Maple Arena on Saturday nights for the peewees. Mark Greenberg, Dwayne Virgo, Norman Carrotte. Bryon Disera, Danny Cyr and Mike Moore all scored, with Virgo and Dis- era getting assists. A lone answer for Shoppers came at the end of the first per- iod scored by Stephen Herb- ert, assisted by Gary Cur- ley. PEEWEES Stan Cook 3 Goodwood Sand 0 John Knox got his first shut-out of the season when Foster from Tim Denomme scored Deluca's second goal, turning the tables and Del- uca’s spirits. York Fire 3. N. S. Smith 3 York Fire ,took a 3-0 lead and thought they could re- lax. Smith put on the presâ€" sure and managed to tie it up and move out of the cel- lar. Everyone got a piece of the action as Demarco down- ed Shoppers 6-1. A loose goal post let in the first goal, and Shoppers seemed to go downhill right from the beginning. Eric Stephenson opened the scoring. Todd McKnight from Stephenson and Scott Gray scored the second. The third unanswered goal was scored by Joey Foti from Bill Hollings. At this point, late in the second period. the realtors had had enough. Marty Coughlin from Tim Maxwell turned the tide. David Marris then scored two goals. the second assisted by Maxwell and Cameron Brooke to make an exciting finish and a turn in N. S. Smith's luck. Shanahans 3 After losing three games in a row, Bemardi came back with a solid win over first place Shanahans in a high- penalty game at Maple Sat- urday night; Jim Lee scored the winner and the insur- ance. JeIKJe Flanagan opened for Bernardi. Paul Poscente from Keith Turner tied it up for a minute to be fol- lowed by Dave D'Agostini with some help from Dun- can Cameron to take the lead. Feeling more confi- dent, Mike Pacek and Lee scored two quick goals, with Dave Daymont assisting Lee. Bruce Smith kept up the pace with some help from Mark Danton for Shanahan. Lee decided the win needed some insurance, and scored again.- Poscente scored his second, with assistance of David Rozycki and Mark Strom for Shanahans’ final counter. MIDGETS Ted Heidman assisted by Steve Adams made it a close game early in the second period. but Curley from Gor- man. followed by Mike Still from Bauer, scored again for York. Taurin’s Esso 2 Dodd’s Doors 1 Taurin's Esso finally came up with a win, doubling sec- ond place Dodd's Doors 2â€"1 in a good game of hockey. Tim Leon opened for Taur- in's. Heyland answered with Dodd's only marker. JUNIORS BANTAMS Hanna Trenching 6 Fisher Brothers 1 There were two Bantam upsets this week. with Hanna downing Fisher in their second win of the season. Brian Mischtian led the rout with a hat trick and an as- sist. all in the first period. Mischtian opened the game, assisted by Ugo Fusco. Fusco from Mischtian and Dave Avard scored the secâ€" ond. Travelways 5 Thomhill Lions 1 The Travelways junior hockey team finally put themselves together as dis- played in an impressive 5-1 victory over Thomhill Lions. Sparked by end to end rushes of John Hopper. and a full team effort, the Trav- elways team disrupted Lions usual robust hard-hitting game. Doug Holubec open- ed scoring for Lions. assist- ed by Scott Meddick in the first period. But Hugh Mc- Millan picked up a stray pass from line-mate Norm Sharpe and tied the game. Greg Lee put Travelways in front in the second per- iod by blasting a point shot behind Bill Preistman. Mc- Millan assisted. Dan Kirby scored in a goal mouth The winner came from the sticks of Jones and Alex- ander in the first period. with both teams remaining scoreless in the second half. Stan Cook blanked Good- wood Sand to tie them with seven points in the Peewee standings, which are getting tighter week by week. After a scoreless first per- iod, Keith Sutch scored twice, the first assisted by Phil Chamney and David Wylie. Shelley Levine from Stephen Kemp then scored the third. Cook and Good- wood are tied in the stand- ings. The third period saw I’aul Nicholas tie the score up with assistance frfom Lock- erbie and Barton.
