Phil McLaughlin slapped home the first goal from linemates Jim Wood and Alan Clark, followed by a MacMillan from Grelner tally. Greiner scored what proved to be the winner from MacMillan, and then Querengesser got into the act when he teamed up} with MacMiHan and Greiner. MINOR BANTAM (2nd Team) Victoria & Grey Trust 7 Strand Bantams 2 Victoria & Grey picked up their ninth consecutive win against three losses in league play last Saturday night in the old arena with a convinc- ing 7-2 victory over Stroud, as the smooth passing line of Robert Greiner, Ross Queren- gesser and Greg MacMillan accounted for five goals. Barrie 7, Lions 1 The Lions travelled to Bar- rie Saturday to lose a 7-1 decision to the strong-skating Barrie club. David Plaxton scored the only goal for the Hill assisted by Joel Reeves and Dean Logan. PEEWEE Newmarket 1, Lions 0 Richmond Hill Lion Pee- wees started back into league action in Newmarket Friday evening. There was no scor- ing in the first or second periods. Both teams had chances but the goalies stop- ped everything. Ted Inch for the Hill made some sparkling saves. ‘Newmarket scored the win- ner with only 47 seconds left in the game. There was no more scoring until the 8:03 mark when ’I‘hornhill went ahead by two goals. When Thornhill scored its last goal with one minute and 33 seco..ds left in the game, the Hillers decided it was time to score so with a minute and 12 seconds left Bill Madden scored helped by Dunford and 21 seconds later David Allen ended the scoring aided by Halliday. Richmond Hill played host to Thornhill on Sunday and came out of the game on the wrong end of a 3-2 score. In the third, Richmond Hill ended the scoring at the 11:33 mark on a goal by Glen Dunford assisted by Craig Halliday. Thomhill 3, Richmond Hill 2 In the first period Thorn- hill scored at the 6:40 mark. In the second period the Hillers scored again at the 3:14 mark with Henderson being helped by Shannon. Then Aurora scored its only goal at 14:51 to end the sec- ond period. Wilson Nibletts started quickly with a goal at the 3:57 mark by Danny Hender- son assisted by Steve Shan- non. At the 14:38 mark Glen Dunford scored, assisted by Craig Halliday. Orillia 2, R. Hill 1 For the second time this weekend the Rams played Orillia, this time in Orillia, but this time they lost. The first two periods were score- less. With six minutes gone in the third period and with both teams playing a man short, Orillia scored. The Rams tied it up eight minutes later when D’Amico scored. Assisting on the play was Lockerbie and Cox. Exactly two minutes later, Orillia scored the winning goal on a breakaway that beat Baxter on the stick side. Richmond Hill 4. Aurora 1 Richmond Hill went to Aurora January 5 and came away with a big win. MINOR PEEWEE After a scoreless first per- iod, Orillia opened the scor- ing with less than four min- utes remaining in the second. They went ahead 2-0 early in the third period. Goals by Don and Jensen with 3:58 remaining, but in the next minute and 35 seconds, Jen- sen scored twice and Don once. Orillia scored the last goal with seven seconds re. maining in the game. The referee called six penalties, three to each team. Newmarket 4, R. Hill 1 Saturday evening the Rams travelled to Newmarket and played one of their worst games of the season. New- market goals were scored by Bain, Mark and two by Doak. The lone Ram goal was scored by Gwillam with as- sists going to Lockerbie and Bryan Cox. Pen-y Hill Industries 5 Orillia 4 Ken Jensen got a hat trick, Andrew Don scored two goals and Bobby Petroff picked up three assists to take care of all the Richmond Hill scoring Friday night. Both Jensen and Don scored an unassisted goal. Beeton 5, Richmond Hill 0 This time it can be said we were not beaten in Beeton by Beeton, because they did it to us in Richmond Hill. Royal Bank was visited Jan- uary 5 by Beeton and came out on the short end of a 5-0 score. A tip of the jug to Reg Golub who during his tour between the posts played exceptionally well. Oro 8, Richmond Hill 0 Too bad, dear fans, but there is not Little Christmas up north either. Royal Bank visited Oro January 6. Down 8~0 as the buzzer ended the game Royal Bank was still driving to the Lions’ den for a score. We tip the jug this time to Mike Briggs for his fine play, ATOM “A” MINOR ATOM (2nd Team) Legion Midgets Win 2 Weekend Gam Le’gion 4, Orillia 3 In a wild hockey game that saw Orillia take a 3-2 lead Newmarket, however fought back to tie the contest at 6:32. It was a heads-up play engin- eered by Dave Berseth that gave the Hillers the victory as he spotted Arnold Van Der Weyde in the clear, passed the puck at centre ice, giving Arnie a clear cut breakaway. Arnie easily flip- ped the puck behind the goalie for the game-winning counter. Whatever was said, must have worked and the Hillel‘s stormed on the ice. Tony Robinson put his team on the scoreboard’as he scored from Dave Berseth, followed by two John Oakley counters. The first was scored unassist- ed, and the second was ta1~ lied on a perfect Bobby Mc- Cullough pass to give the Legion a 3-2 lead. MIDGET Legion 4, Newmarket 3 Richmond Hill’s Legion Midgets came up with a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Newmarket last Friday night in Newmarket. The Hillers started off list- lessly and found themselves down 2-0 after tWo periods. Then, however, intermission came, affording Coach Peter Artemchuck an opportunity to apply his brand of psy- chology to the deflated Leg- ionaires. Aurora finally got on the scoreboard but Earl and Hughes-Crest, with their sec- ond goals of the game, wrapped it up for the Steel- ers. Mike Ham and Glen Tatum received assists on the last two goals. Bond Steel is in second place in the standings behind Barrie who has last only one game and that was to our club. Bond Steel 5. Aurora 2 Richmond Hill Bond Steel Minor Midgets defeated Au- rora 5-2 at the local arena Sunday evening. After a slow start in which Goaltender Ben Bourget came up with a couple of big saves. the big green team started to move. Rob Dynes opened the scor- ing by deflecting a hard shot from the point by Ross Mid- dleton. David Earl scored the second goal assisted by Peter Kendall and Middleton and Randy Hughes-Guest put the home side three up assisted by Earl and Doug Hodgson. MINOR MIDGET Victon‘a ended the scoring when MacMillan popped in a goal from Queren-gesser and Greiner, and Greiner fired home the puck from Queren- gesser and MacMillan, Goalie Steve Shadoff had a fairly easy time in picking up his sixth victory, with special mention in order for the defensive quintet of Angus McGregor, John Tuck. Neil Putnam, Reiner Pleschberger and Pete Tipold. while the line of Greg Walton, Chris Bedford and John Burnett proved highly effective with their checking. Alan Clark made it 5-0 as assists went to Wood and McLaughlin. Coming Up: This week- end, the Bond Steel boys and their parents are host- ing a very strong club from Warren, Michigan. This is a suburb of Detroit. Saturday at 9 pm the first game will be played and Sunday at 1 pm the second is scheduled, both in the new arena. 18 LEVENDALE ROAD RICHMOND HILL Michelangelo Furniture Liberal Classifieds Get Results REDUCTIONS #‘5 50% Gibbard . . . The first game. a tightly fought contest, ended in a 2-2 tie. Hill goalgetters were Danny McVeigh from David Baker and Brad Lloyd and Roy Russell unassisted. RIVERSIDE TOURNAMENT Richmond Hill 5 ~ Leamington 3 The first round of the Riverside Tournament was a two - game total - goal . series with Richmond Hill pitted against Leamington. The win- ner of the round proceeded into a sudden-death knock- out. I BANTAMS Suddenly, with only 53 sec- onds left in the game. the referee awarded a penalty shot for someone “delaying the game with less than two minutes remaining". Every- one in the rink, fans, coaches and players were confused. The Legion team thought they had been awarded the penalty shot, and after a con- ference, it was awarded to Orillia who scored at 19:07. The Legion players, ap- pcaring incensed, stormed on the Orillio net like an on- rushing bulldozer, and at 19:27, Robinson tied the game on passes from Van Der Weyde and Oakley. It took Oakley precisely four more seconds to break the tie, At centre ice, on the draw, Robinson passed to Van Der Weyde, who in turn passed the puck to Oakley who was flying down the right wing. Oakley blistered a Slapshot that evaded Goalie Pamham to give the Killers victoryâ€"time 19:32. All residents in the Rich- mond Hill area are cordial- ly invited to attend a dance at the Legion Hall this Saturday. This dance is in aid of the Legion Midget Hockey Club who encount- er great operating expens- es. The players ask that you please attend, and the management can promise you a very entertaining evening. Orillia took a 1-0 lead be- fore Mike Gallaugher evened the game on a pass from Van Der Weyde. Orillia scored again to lead 2-1 after two periods. Rob Wallingford tied the game in the third period from Gallaugher, and it looked like there would be a 2-2 stalemate. The Hillers outshot Orillia 48-18 in this game but were continuously frustrated by Orillia Goalkeeper Steve Pamham who came up with an unbelievable performance. on a questionable Orillia awarded penalty shot with just 53 seconds left, the Leg- ion lads fired home two goals and skated off the ice with a 4-3 decision in the new arena Sunday afternoon. of The next day, presumably rested but apparently not, the Tournaments boys again bowed to Riverside 4-2. Gwillimbury 1 Playing one of the best games of the season Friday night in Newmarket Bob's Girls came away with a hard-earned point in a 1-1 draw with East Gwillimbury. Debbie Howarth wasted no time putting the locals on the scoreboard when she took a pass from Janie Stephenson and flashed the red light only a minute in- to the game. East Gwillim- bury came back to tie the game late in the first period and the final two periods went scoreless.
