Vaughan Tawn, will have the gavel he used as the first chairman of York County Roman Catholic School Board as a memento of the five years he spent in that of- fice. The gavel, suitably inscribed was presented to Mr. Jacobs by his succes- sor as chairman John Mc- Derm’ott of Stouft‘ville, at the board’s February 5 meeting. The gavel is almost in close the board meetings. Jacobs never had to use it other than to open and close the board meeting. Dalton MacArthur was the “blind’ referee for the eve- ning. He was attacked by the boys' team coaching staff al- ternately by pies and buckets of water. But, “alls well that ends well". The boys thor- oughly trounced their moth- ers. It was impossible to score against Michael Jones until the mothers had all 16 players on the ice. FIGURE SKATING The Richmond Hill and Woodlbridge Figure Skating Club sent some of their best young skaters to perform. There were dance pairs, both boy and girl combinations and girls. Many of the girls also did solo routines. The evening started with an inter-squad game of the Maple girls hockey. The Maple mothers came on next, dressed “to kill" in Vaughan Nats uniforms to “play” their sons and other atom league boys. The average age of the boys was seven. One of the most exciting parts of Fun Night is the draw. The OMHA peewee More than 400 firefighters from York Region and Metro attended the funeral of Leslie (Chic) Milne, 42, of 15 Clemson Crescent, Maple, a member of Vaughan Fire Depart- ment, who died shortly after attending a fire February 2 in the Thornhill area of Vaughan. Mr. Milne was stricken by a heart attack at a house fire while laying hose lines for Community involvement meant success for the Fun Night Friday of last week at the Maple arena.
