It resulted from an incl- dent February 10 during a game between Richmond Hill and North Bay at the North Bay Memorial Gar- dens Arena in which a spectator was injured dur- ing a fight. A discretionary bench warrant was issued for Takeuchi. He is to appear in North Bay Provincial Court in April. DAVE HARTFORD 884-7456 LIZ ROSEBLADE Gord Tonner of our club, with Hank Vos, Walt Hamil- ton and Don Brayshaw were third place finishers. Gord was down three coming home in his second game with last rock and managed .a five-ender to keep him in the running. Len Thompson of Avonlea was fourth with Clarence Beach and George Mitchell both of Richmond Hill finishing fifth and sixth respectively. GREATEST DISTANCE George Beattie. a former member now living in Rich- mond, Virginia. came up for this popular 3-6 end game spiel. A rink from Atik- okan was recognized as the rink travelling the greatest distance. Jack Shropshire. recuper- ating in the hospital, was un< able to skip his rink in de- fense of his last year's vic- tory in the 13th Annual Sinners "Brier" held at the club Saturday of last week. However. Gerry Morlock took over and skipped the rink of Grant Cats, Dan Mil- ford and Wayne Hindmarch to a second place win, a few points behind the over all winner P. Raftus of Avon- lea. Entertainment throughout the day was provided by Pete Howard on the organ. Danc- ing to music supplied by a disc jockey wound up this successful event. Each year a‘ portable television set is raffled off, compliments of Art Gibson and Danforth Radio. Tom Hardcastle sold the winning ticket but the winner is un- knowu at the moment. The winner of the Dudes (leads and seconds) first ev- ent was Shirley Lockhart and her rink of Donna Smith, Genie Greenham and Mar- lene Augustine. Runner-up was Joanne Stephenson and her rink of Edith Diggins. Sue Supra and Vera Myers. The first event for the Dandies (vices and skips) was won by Elaine Elliott’s rink of Pat Thomson. Kay Copeland and Terri Powell. The second event for the Dudes was won by Fran An- derson, Mary Pryzdial and Betty Wright skipped by Blanche Leslie, Runner-up was Helen Awde and her rink of Colleen Alexson, Bev Major and Chic Chalmers. The Dudes and Dandies Spiel was held recently with two games on Tuesday and one on Wednesday with a final game for those who qualified†This bonspiel appears to become more serious each year as the calibre of curling improves. The fun and comradeship still prevails. Maybe next year Ernie Dub- kowski and Len Lee will be fortunate enough to be on a winning rink. Maybe a few lessons from their wives are in order. The Dandies' second event was won by Doris Vance and her rink of Keitha Matheson, Marilyn Howard and Mark Mellon. Runner-up was Jean Coneybeare with Ruth Elli- son, Ruth Taylor and Doreen Meeres. COOKSTOWN BONSPIEL The Cookstown Curling Club held its first mixed in- vitational bonspiel and after five games the rink of Mary White. Wayne Hindmarch and Lynn Paton skipped by Jim Anderson had' the dis- tinct honor of winning the DUDES-DANDIES SPIEL By RON TAYLOR - 884-7817 Local Rinks Were Runners Up In 13th Annual Sinners Brier trophy. At the Whitby Curling Club in a seven-year-filly spiel, Edith Diggins skipped her rink of Sue Bailey, Colleen Alexson and Claire Wood to high one game winners in the 2-10 end event. Frank Ellison continues to improve as he and his wife Ruth. along with Will and Win Simpson were runners- up in the third event at the Burlington Golf and Curling Club. Frank and his team won four out of six games in the 30 rink competition. If you plan to see some or all of this top notch curling, get there early. Bleacher seats are apparently being ,brought in and waiters have volunteered their services for the day. It is interesting to note all teams who compete in these out-of-town spiels all report good prizes. hospitality and food. Unfortunately. due to a lack of challenge from the older club members a junior and senior: challenge spiel failed to materialize Sunday, but thanks to interested par- ents and other club members the juniors were able to hold a 2~6 end fun day of»cur1- ing. WON WATCHES A junior rink competing at Avonlea in a 3-8 end invita- tional spiel Saturday missed the main event trophy by a mere one quarter point. But the rink of Donna Buchan lead, Gary Hillaby second, Mary Weiss vice and skip Kevin Roberts won Timex watches for their excellent effort. Possibly the biggest event of the year for the Richmond Hill Curling Club will be this weekend when the bus- iness girls will host the Bus- iness Girls Provincial play- offs from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. This is quite an honor for the club and a great challenge for the committee responsible for its organization. It was strictly no contest as Richmond Hill started off 'by winning the men's doubles, number one pair, and con- tinued the winning streak to take all the men’s doubles. Richmond Hill dropped only one game out of six in the ladies doubles. The scores were as follows: Men's Doubles-Cam Cairn- cross and Larry Marchbank winning 15-4. 15-5; Randy Carlson and Gary Ford 15-4, 15-1; Doug Andrews and Bob White 18-15, 15-11. The skips are Helen Baird of Sarnia, Marilyn Farrell of Walkerton, Jeanette Everett of St. Catharines, Brenda Martin of North Bay, Fay Taylor of Thornhill, Norrie Smith of Leaside, May Hin- on of Peterboro and Carol Lewis of Kingston. They will assemble with their rinks at the Black Hawk Motor Inn and will be escorted to the curling club where Mayor William Lazenby will throw the first official rock. The teams will have a re- ception at the club after their first game on Friday evening. Cocktails and din- ner will follow the games on Saturday. The finals will be held on Sunday afternoon. The Richmond Hill Bad- minton walloped St. Clements 22-2 last week to win the To- ronto Interchuroh Badmin- ton League title. Hill Badmintoners League Champions Mixed Doubles - Jill John- son and Cam Caimcross win- ning 15-11, 15-10: Enid Grant and Randy Carlson winning 15-6. 15-8; Hilda Baxter and Gary Ford winning 15-6, 15-10; Joan Freeman and Larry Marchbank splitting 6-15, 18-15; Carol McDonald and Doug Andres winning 15-11, 15-4; Lil McCallum and Bob White winning 15-12, 15-4. The previous week saw the Richmond Hill club downing Aurora for the second time this season to be the only club in the league to do so. It was a 'big win for Rich- mond Hill as Aurora had previously only been defe- ated once while Richmond Hill had dropped two games. That win left Richmond Hill and Aurora tied for first with 14 points apiece. Ladies’ Doubles-Enid Grant and Joan Freeman splitting 15-12. 14-17;.Ji11 Johnson and Hilda Baxter winning 15-7, 15-2; Carol McDonald and Lil McCallum winning 15-3. 15-0.
