The awarding of team tro- phies to Richmond Hill in both the bantam and midget divisions came as a surprise as only three midget girls competed for the Hill but they amassed sufficient points to be tops for the day. Runner Marney Buckles placed second in the 400. and 800 metres, and 3rd in the 200 metres. Leslie Rog- ers won the long jump and placed second in the high jump, and Cheryl Paxton placed second on the long jump and fourth in the jav- .e1in and discus. The. highly competitive field in the midget girls ev- ents prevented any one club from compiling too many points and the small, but ef- fective group from RHAC managed to hang on for the midget trophy. In the girls bantam section it was all Richmond Hill with Jane Toporowski win- ning the javelin. and discus, and placing second in the shotput, Sandra Diggiach- innio winning the long jump and placing second in the high jump, Daniela Tosoni placing third and fourth in the 100 and 400 metres, and Kathy Mark seventh in the 100 metres and fifth in the high jump. To top off the 60 x 90" 0rd. 5.98 1.19 day, the relay team of Mark. Diggiachinnio,. Tosoni and Laurie Stockall sprinted through to win. The bantam and midget boys could not match the award winning performances of their female members but a goodly number of victories were registered by the male competitors. Midget Jeff Bells captured the 400 and 800 metres, Jim Mark won the long jump and placed second in the high jump, Richard Lappenna won the 200 metres. and Rick Buchan recorded second place in the triple jump. Other members who conâ€" tributed winning points to the team effort were Martin Wildberger, John Monk, Phil Tennant and Alan Thomas. Athletes who qualified at Camp Borden will be hosted by Central Command of the Legion at Ottawa August 17. Track league action finds the team of Richmond Hill ~North York, still comfort- ably entrenched in fourth place in the 12 team league. Richmond Hill Indus- trial League has been able to play only two of three doubleheaders due to tourna- ments. Lake Wilcox 6, McKinlay Drywall 6 McKinlays appeared to be on the way to winning their second contest of the season when the Lakers got it toge- ther in the final frame and managed to square the count at six apiece. In the bottom of the first. the Drywalls took a two run lead as Phil Skinner singled. He was sacrificed by Larry Shier to second. Then John Uprichard drew a walk which set the stage for Dennis Sex- ton's single which drove in the two runners. Wilcox bounced back in the top of the second to knot the count as Marcel Forget and Loren Mayes got on base. Both scored as Rick Collins drove them home. Cliff Hartnett put McKin~ lay in front again in the third as he reached base on a bunt single. He advanced as Skin- ner singled and scored as Shier also singled. Again the Lake came back as Barry Bingham singled and managed to score. McKinlay countered with two more runs in the third by Sexton and Hartnett who reached base on an error and In the bottom of the fourth Skinner singled and Shier smacked the 'ball out of the a walk respectively. Each managed to steal home. E5 CHARG EX If); park scoring Skinner, how- ever Shier neglected to touch third and his homer was ruined. The Drywallers held their three-run edge till the top of the final inning when Bill Mark and Bruce Stevens each singled and Rick Shaw homered to score the three runs needed to knot the count again. Bob Hill started on the rubber for McKinlay and was relieved by Sexton in the top of the second. Pitcher Bruce Stevens of the Lake was re- placed by Rick Collins in the bottom of the fourth. Stevens remained in the game. Jenkins 5, _ R.H. IAuto Body 1 A four-run outburst in the second gave the Jenkins Gar- dent Su'pply team all the runs they needed to stop the new-' ly-crowned tournament cha- mps. Dave Stuart reached base on an error to Rob For- get. Bernie Hough hit into a fielder's choice which elimi- nated John Lenneville who opened the inning with a single off Hill Auto Hurler Alex Smith. This advanced Stuart who then scored on a passed ball. Phil Bellavance got on, scoring Hough. A1 McKenzie got on Forget's second boot of the inning. scoring Bellavance. McKen- zie reached third on 3 passed ball, then A1 McWilJiams went to first courtesy of an error to Kenny Roberts at third base. scoring McKenzie. The Hillers' lone run came in the fourth inning as Smith singled and scored as Steve Wood doubled. Jenkins' final run came in the final frame as Bruce Sampson took advantage of a Bob Whitmarsh error to get all the way to third. Ben Bourget‘s single brought Sampson home. John Lenne- ville was the Jenkins’ hurler. Joe’s Garage 1, Jenkins 0 In this one it seemed that Joes could do no wrong as Pitcher Brian Madely record- ed a no-hitter, achieved chiefâ€" ly through the sharp. defen- sive play of his infield â€" and luck. On‘ the other hand, Jenkins saw all their hits go almost directly to the gloves of their opponents. Four Jenkins' runners rea- ched base, three on walks and the other on an error by Joe's Shortstop Bo‘b Howard. John Lenneville, throwing for Jenkins, gave up six hits, the one to Brian Mader in the fourth being the only one that mattered â€" it was a homerun. Joe's Mader recorded five strikeouts. Big Blue had eight for Jenkins. RH Auto Body 4, Fram Filtration 4 Eight members of the Hill Auto team plus one member of Jenkins met and battled to a 4-all draw with the fire- fighters of Fram Filtration, who had only nine players on hand. Jenkins’ A1 McKen- zie was the Hill's chosen ninth player. The firemen grabbed a one-run lead in the second as Jim Lawson scored follow- ing Bucky Buchanan's single. In the fourth Fram went three up as Lawson again singled and scored as Buch- anan again singled. Bucky scored as Pete Gould got on scored as Pete Gould got on an error to Lou Vanderpough playing first. The Hill Auto club ‘bounc- ed back in the fifth as Van- derpough singled and Bob Whitmarsh, of all people, homered. Then Bob Forget doubled, followed by Steve Wood, who homered. which put the Killers in the driv- er’s seat. With two away in the bot- tom of the seventh Barry Mathews made it to first base on an error. then Gary Mc- lntyre banged out a long single which scored Mathews to even the score. McIntyre was the third out as he attempted to stretch his single into a double and failed. Reports on President Fred Simpkin, recovering f r o m surgery in York Central Hos- pital, are encouraging.
