Now that the election is over, I am the MP for all re- sidents of York North, whet- her or not they voted for me, and this includes those too young to vote. Indeed most of us subscribe to the philosophy that we wish to leave this world somewhat better than we inherited it. This means that much of what we do will benefit future generations and it is therefore important that I maintain contact with and re- flect the views of the child- ren and youth of the riding. It also means setting stand- ards and examples of con- duct and concern for them. It does not necessarily mean doing things for them. They must realise that anything worth achieving is worth working for and that there are others in our society who really need the help of all of us.
