Thornhill All-Star Squirt Selects Continue Winning Ways At Malton Meet With the Oak Ridges tour- nament victory still in their minds. the Squirt house league Selects travelled to Wildwood Park in Malton on Saturday. Entrants such as Richmond Hill, Eringate, and Alder-wood promised the keenest test of skill to any who dared challenge their traditional dominance of these tournaments. Richmond Hill were ’72 and ’73 winners. Feeling the effect of Aug- ust vacations, the Thornhill All-Stars were bolstered With 'new fielders Bruce Catoen and David Alberico, and new first baseman Ed MacDonald. Back up pitcher John Adams had not seen duty on the slab as yet, but had been working out daily ito add some additional con- trol to his great speed. ' Starting positions for the first game were Larry Darby pitching. brother Mike catching, Ed Mac- Donald on first, John Adams on second. Steve Daurio at third. brother Greg at short- stop. Bruce Catoen in left field, Bobby lbeArico in cen- tre and brother David in right. Of the nine starting players, three sets of two were brothers. and two of these sets were identical twins. In the first inning, Chin- guacousy No. 2 were held scoreless on one hit, while Thornhill came back with five runs on five hits to take an early and decisive lead over what proved later to be a fairly strong team. Match- ing Chinguacousy's one run in the second, Thornhill held them scoreless in the third while chalking up four more By MARG BOUGHTON Public Meeting for Road Assumption By-luw TAKE NOTICE that pursuant to the Municipal Act whereas some doubt has arisen as to whether certain streets in the Corpora- tion of the Town of Richmond Hill have been assumed as public highways and the Council deems it advisable to assume these streets by By-law, a public meeting concerning the Road Assumption Byâ€"law is being held on Wednesday the 11th day of September, 1974, at the hour of 7:30 p.m., in the council chambers, in the Municipal office, 10266 Yonge Street, in the Town of Richmond Hill for considering the By-law and hearing those advocating and opposing the assumption of these streets as public highways. Toronto runs on three hits. At cur- few, Thornhill had won 11-3. Pitcher Larry Darby had allowed only seven hits, and given up three bases on balls. while fanning three of 20 batters he faced. In other games of the first round. Chineuacousy No. 1 edged Eringate 10-9. Alderwood downed Maiton 7-4, and Richmond Hill drew a bye SECOND ROUND In the second round, Mal- 'on met Chinguacousy No. 1, Bramalea's second entry. Although they had edged Eringate in the first round, they were not considered as strong as their No. 2 team. Planning for a possible five games, coaches Stan Levine and Stan Daurio decided this was the time to relieve pitcher Darby, and to deter- mine the extent to which John Adams might be used later. Darby took second, as Adams warmed up. This second game was no contest. Allowing only a single hit, and givingnp {any walks while fanning 10 of 19 batters, John Adams led the Thomhill defence in holding Chinguacousy No. 1 to only two runs. Batting 1,000 and chalking up Thorn- hill’s first homerun, Adams also figured strongly in the 15 runs scored against Chin- guacousy No. 1. In other games in this round. Chinguacousy No. 2 eliminated Eringate 4-2, Alderwood shut out Rich- mond Hill 8-0. and Malton drew a bye. With a possible three games yet to be played in the event of a loss here, the Thornhill coaches de- cided to save Darby for pitching in the critical final games. They hoped Adams could repeat some of the performance he showed in the game No. 2. Holding Alderwood score- less on one hit in the first, Thornhill again proved their mastery on the bases, steal- ing everything that their opposition would allow, and accumulating five runs on Our l‘s! price Our hst DIICC 12 88 Ea 8 97 Ea K mart Special K mart Special 88 97 Ea Ea HOCKEY STOCKINGS Boys stockwngs an: avdxlablv m (mum looHess szwe and m team mm“: M m.» Mame Leavs Bvums Norm 81315 B‘w’n Hawks Canadwns and Red Wmas 32 10er Men 5 siockmgs m 2 51 Ht) km ms} 30 \mg and come m varwus team \ OMNS MEN'S SIZES BOYS' SIZES K mart Price K mart Price 44 44 PRO HOCKEY STICK Our hst price 7 97 Ea Fiberglass shaH Cuwod blade and mac-3 54-55 mches long 97 Special was? kudhéy. thigh and tall 'gnjards.
