The development of King Township and surrounding municipalities has been ad- vocated by the new Minister of Urban Affairs in the Tru- deau Cabinet. “I want to see King de- veloped NOW.†the new Minister. Barney Danson said during a press confer- ence in Richmond Hill re- cently. Then he added, “I am in favor of establishing communities outside the Metro area; in Markham, Vaughan, King, etc. â€" with lower-cost housing and from which workers can com- mute to Metro. I am very keen on satellite commun- ities." This was the first press conference held by the Minister since his appoint- ment. The "new" Cabinet contains no changes which would indicate a more imaginative approach to solving our economic prob- lems, including inflation. The Ministers mainly res- ponsible. for our present economic stance â€"- Mr. Tur- ner and Mr. Gillespie -â€" have held their portfolios, while on another front, Mr. MacEachen, who has had no previous experience in the department, has taken over External Affairs. Ontario was particularly short-changed in the Cab- inet shuffle. In the last House, Ontario had 12 of the 30 Cabinet positions, while Quebec had 10. In the new line-up, we in On- tario have 10 of the 29. while Quebec has 11. It is difficult to un- derstand why Prime Minis- ter Trudeau should be so harsh with Ontario which gave him a good majority of seats â€" 55 out of 88 in the last election, compared to 36 two years ago. Following the Quebec Provincial Election in June of that year, six elected Members of the Parti Queb- ecois were refused admission to the first session of thei National Assembly for re-‘ fusing to sweas the Oath of‘ Allegiance to the Queen. Dr. Cami1 Laurin, party leader in the Assembly, attempted to introduce a new oath: “I swear that I will be faithful to the people of Quebec and to its democratic institu- tions." Such innovation was unacceptable to the Clerk and the six prequisites retir- ed to the visitors' gallery where they formed a new “upper chamber“. The exclusion of the Members â€" or their boy- cott -â€" lasted ten days. Dur- ing that time the PQ argued that the oath was offensive to Quebec and well within the provincial government's power to change. Premier 19 0| pkg. 15 9: pkg.
