Seneca Art Show Big Attraction More than 100 artists and craftsmen turned out September 1 5 for the public arts, crafts and antiques fall festival at Seneca Col- lege‘s King Campus. Hundreds of visitors were there to view and buy, picnic and wander through the beautiful spacious grounds and tour the impressive facilities at Eaton Hall. One of the most popular and interesting stalls was that displaying handmade leather jewellery designed and made by Daphne Ling- wood of Caledon East and the batik caftans (centre) designed and made by Joan Donelly. Fires Not Only Concern Firefighters Have Busy Week In More Than Just One Area It’s not just fires that keep area firefighters on the run.‘ Last week, Richmond Hil Fire Department, besidesl answering the usual fire, calls. acted as standby for, Vaughan Fire Department while it was out on a major call, and also visited Hill-‘ crest Mall to do battle with‘ a faulty sprinkler system. The latter call occurred} September 22 at 11:48 am at Top Drug Mart when a, “surge of pressure" activat- ed the sprinkler system in, the store and threatened to flood the premises. The firemen plugged the system until it could be shut off, but not before some $8,000 damage had been done. $5,000 DAMAGE A fire of undetermined origin at Ronalds Federated, 10481 Yonge Street, result- ed in $5,000 damage Septem- ber 10, about 8:50 pm. The fire broke out in the shipping room and received some resistance from the plant sprinkler system be- fore the Hill department ar- rived to bring it under con- trol. Chief Robert Kennedy’s men also answered a call at Oxford Picture Frames, 278 'Newkirk Roadâ€"no dam- age â€" and responded to 14 grass and bush fires with- in ,the week.
