0n Springhead Gardens At WeIdrick Major concern about the two entrances on Springhead Drive, planned for the Mac's Milk Store to be located at Weldrick Road and Spring- head Gardens. was again ex- pressed to Richmond Hill" Council by Grant Ruthen. ford on behalf of 10 rate payers of the area Septem- ber 16. “There are a lot of small children in the area and two. driveways are double trou- ble,“ he said. “We feel this will create a traffic circle,,~ with cars flying in one en-:I trance and out the other» With one entrance-exit they will have to be more cau- tious. "the overall concern of the area is the people. Cars are the main problem, the more control we have on cars, thc better it will be." Rutherford submitted a plan showing the two en- trances - exits, located side by side, north of the chest- nut trte it is hoped to preserve. ENTRANCE OPPOSED Ward 6 Councillor Lou Wainwright said he’d done extensive homework on the subject and the people most affected don't want an en- trance to the south. Coun- callor Andy Chateauvert asked for the logic of having separate entrances, Works Ccmmissioner Bernard To- porowski replied it is a very shallow and wide lot and two entrances would mean leSS, confrontation of traffic in-1 side, particularly in the win- ter. “I don‘t think it is the in- tent to have a double en-. trance, but rather to have, some abutment in the cen- tre," explained Wainwright. ' “Two entrances in the: centre would mean a trem- endous amount of conges- tion," said Councillor Jack, Major. , LANDSCAPING STRIP l Planner Randy Alcorn said the governing bylaw re-: quires an eightâ€"foot land-. scaping strip, and moving, the southerly entrance could, mean elimination of parking space. “Two trances spread apart en- are more convenient." The developer is here and is not averse to change," said Wain- wright. “To me, one entrance is not acceptable." said Coun- cillor Andy Chateauvert. “We should be willing to sacrifice something to move the drive- way over, and although I‘d like to preserve the tree, to protect lives I would sacri- fice it ” FORMER STORE “I thought it was agreed to more the south entrance far as possible to the north. Let‘s do away with the tree if that is necessary to satisfy the people.“ said Wainwright. He went on to ‘recall that prior to Spring- head Gardens being estab- lished in BAIF, the site had a store on it for 25 years with an entrance from Weld- "It's unfortunate lot that we have both entrances on Spring- head." “I feel the driveway can't be moved northward because of the movement in the park- ing area” stated Alcorn. The majority of council de- cided to proceed with the. plans as presented by the planning staff. with two sep- arated entrances on Spring- head. The latter was subsequently con- victed‘and received six years in prison_ BRAVERY AT FIRE The heroics of Constable Metcalfc during an apart- ment garage fire in Marit- ham, August 23, brought about his citation.
