These problems of our community were brought to the council‘s attention by Mrs. Muus‘ lettgr- to the editor in the spring and through the summer John Birchall has worked with us to schedule different meetings regarding these conditions. PRESENTPROBLEMS On July 16 Mrs. Marion Hohener. Mrs. Erica Thomson and Harold Nadeau of Duncan Road. along with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kerhli of Sixteenth Avenue met with John Birchall at your correspondent‘s home for a briefing as to what to present to the council the next morning. On July 17 with the exception of Mr. Nadeau of Duncan Road and Mrs. Kerhli we met with Councillor Lou Wainwright, chairman of works com- mittee; Bernie Toporowski Commissioner of Works; Gordon Rowe, William Corcoran and Dave Stephenson, councillors. At this short but effective meeting we presented the problems of this com- munity. §ince then work has been done to improve these problems. NEIGHBORHOOD NOTES The road signs at the entrance of Sixteenth Avenue and Duncan Road and the lighting at these entrances have been brOught to the attention of York Region authorities and to date there has been no reply. but one is anticipated. The problem of the drainage and flood problem of this area is under con- sideration. Mr. Toporowski has been in correspondence with the City of Toronto to get an easement in order that a ditch along Elm from Sixteenth Avenue to the Langstaff Farm will be dug. ROAD CONDITIONS The poor condition of the roads in this community are under study â€" tests are made to determine the base on which Duncan Road is laid. This year and in the spring a granular base will be added. If the base holds up adequately. the road will be surface treated. The liquid waste will be tested as soon as it is reported to Town engineer Bernie Toporowski. So anyone noticing any discoloration or any sign of a pollutant in the creek’s water please notify him at the Town Hall. He will have samples taken of the water and sent to the laboratory to get tested and brought under control. Once these are brought under control, emphasis will be put on the minimum standards bylaw. At German Mills Creek (Little Don) waste materials, both solid and liquid, find their way into this water. It was suggested the solids may be cleaned up by forming a clean-up group of interested residents pulling the garbage out. A waste disposal container would be provided by the town for this purpose. The Ward 3 Ratepayers Association was formed early this year and since then some of the residents of this community have made our problems known to the association.
