October 23. 1974, FREDERICK G. JACKMAN. Clerk. Town of Vaughan. 2141 Major Mackenzie Drive. Maple. Ontario. 8322281 l The Richmond Hill Bantam ‘AA‘ team went to the Aurora rink October 31 for the third league game of the season. This team. although winning 8-3. didn‘t look like the same team that had lied Thornhill the Saturday before and destroyed Barrie 8-4 on the following Sunday. Although Frank Nigro opened the scoring, unassisted in the first period. the team still seemed to be lacking firepower and deter~ mination showed in previous games. Garry Gentry. who has been performing great while killing penalties. took a pass from Chris Nye and scored a Shorthanded goal on a backhanded shot. from about 10 feet out. The Hillers seemed to sag after Gentry‘s goal and instead of going to the at- tack, sat back and tried to protect their 2 goal lead. As usual. it cost them, because it only took 14 seconds for Aurora to get back into the game. with Myles O'Riordan tipping it in from Larry Gwiliiam. to make the score 2-1. It took a powerplay goal from Nigro and Phil Wood to put the Hillers on top again by two goals. With three minutes to go in the first period. Greg Hampton took a pass from John Armstrong and put the puck behind Capotosto. to put Aurora back into the game. Richmond Hill then seemed to get the message, as they got two quick goals. one by Wood unassisted, and 17 seconds later, Nigro put it away from Alan Clark and Danny Girard. to give Travelways a 5-2 lead at the end of the first period. Nigro, who has been a tower of strength for the Hill team. scored his fourth goal. and the only goal of the second period. to give Rich~ mond Hill a commanding lead. Tom Peden and Wood drew the assists. With the score 6-2 going into the last period. Richâ€" mond Hill took a penalty which might have cost them. but while playing Shorthanded, Wood took the starch, if any. out of the Aurora team. as he scored the Hill‘s second shor- thanded goal of the game, with Blair Lewis getting the assist. With the game well out of reach. Richmond Hill seemed to take a breather, as Doug Closs scored a goal from Don Smith for Aurora. To add insult to injury. Tom Peden scored the final goal of the game, assists going to Wood and Stan Norman. to give the Hillers the victory with a decisive score of 8-3. Travelways victory Travelways redeemed themselves as they scored six goals in the first period against Newmarket Wed- nesday night. Nigro. who accounted for six goals in this game, opened the scoring at the .53 second mark as he took a pass from Blair Lewis and drew the Newmarket goalie com- pletely out of position to score into the open net. Phil Wood scored the next two, with Leger gaining an assist on the first one. and Greg Walton and Lewis on the second. With the score 3-0 after only four minutes gone in the first period, Newmarket took a foolish penalty. With 4 seconds left in the penalty. Alan Clark scored his second goal of the season with Nigro and Danny Girard drawing assists. Three minutes later. Jamie Gropp picked up the loose puck behind his own net and stickhandled through the entire Newmarket team to score a picture-play goal, which gave Richmond Hill a 5-0 lead. Before the first period ended. Wood put in his third goal with assists going to Nigro and Lewis, Newmarket made a futile attempt to get back in the game. with a disputed goal at 2:34 of the second period. Gary Cutting scoring from Bruce Lawson and Ken Withers. This goal only seemed to upset Richmond Hill, as they came back four minutes later, Nigro scoring from Clark and Girard. Fourteen seconds later. Leger took a drop pass from Jamie Gropp. and found the top righthand corner of the net from the blueline. Nigro. who was on his way to a big evening, scored a powerplay goal from Phil Wood to give the Hill team a 8â€"1 lead going into the third period. Again Richmond Hill seemed to go into a defensive lapse. as they allowed Newmarket to control the play for the first four minutes in the third period. It paid off for the Newmarket team as Scott Sokol scored at the 11:11 mark to give Newmarket their second goal. Brian Pollock assisted on the goal. Nigro took over again for the Hill Bantams four minutes later. as he scored two goals within 17 seconds, one on a powerplay with 6:59 left in the third period. Girard gaining the assist. The second came on a pass from Gerry Leger. who played a solid game for the Hill team. Phil Wood added his fourth goal two minutes later. with the assist going to Blair Lewis, another solid NOVICE Rascone and Allencourt taught to a 1-1 draw as there was no scoring until 12.55 oi the third period. At that point Ron Gelineau netted the puck unaided ior Rascone. At the 14.44 mark Noel Downey made the score even when he sank a pass from Glen Harding and Jim Anderson. The second tilt also ended in a 1-1 tie between Galaxy and City wide.
