Outreach Quartet performs at Methodist Church Nov. 15 Following a tour of numerous Ontario centres, the Richmond‘Hill Outreach Quartet is preparing for an appearance in its home church, Richmond Hill Free Methodist. on November 15. Highlight of the season for the quartet was its per- formance at the annual national quartet convention in Nashville, Tennessee the weekend of October 4 to 6. The talent competition October 5 attracted over 70 groups from across the continent, and the top 10 groups were announced during the parade of stars at the evening performance. The Outreach singers were among the gospel groups‘ top 10. They were the only Canadian group to par- ticipate in the competition. “When people believe in something, it will show.“ explains the group's leader. Neil Nelles of Willowdale. “And when their belief is strong enough it takes on a form of dedication and The job of top man in the administration of a municipality is not an easy one. points out Mrs. Britnell. Furthermore it is the municipality‘s intention to keep him on salary, giving him a $12,000 two-year maintainer to work two or three days a week at the township offices cataloguing and reâ€"organizing bylaws as well as being available in an advisory capacity. As urban centres in King expanded and new ones sprang up, the municipal staff was enlarged. As Rose pointed out in a chat with “The Liberal". it takes as much administrative time to deal with home services as it does with a farm. In some instances there is even more work in- volved in servicing a house with water. hydro. sanitary services, and there is four times as much billing involved in the quarterly levy of property taxes as there used to be when tax bills were sent out once a year. When he first took office. Rose's annual retainer of $1.500 had to cover not only his salary. but cost of renting. heating and staffing the municipal building in Nobleton. Fortunately his wife. Ruth. was available and capable and willing to work as his secretary for four and oneâ€"half years. After high school‘he attended a business college in Metro and worked in business and construction in Metro before returning to his home town to assume the position he has held for so many years. Changes in 1957 But the time came for a change to bring the operation under one roof. and in 1957 they moved into the present ad- ministration building on King Sideroad between Nobelton and King City. He was very popular with the people. was always ready to receive people. and that goes a long way in a public servant". Mrs. Dobson worked with Mr Rose for 19 years bgfore retiringr two years ago. Major has lived in Rich- mond Hill for almost 18 years with his wife Bev and their four children at 383 Wenlock Avenue; The high cost of borrowing money today was evident November 5 when the York Region Roman Catholic School Board passed a bylaw authorizing deben- turing for $348,000 for the purchase of St. Peter’s School site in West Wood- bridge. The debentures will carry interest at 912 percent and will run for 20 years. Councillor Jack Major has announced he will seek return to the office of Ward 3 councillor in the December 2 election. Birchall, who has been chairman of the Ward 3 Ratepayers‘ Group since its inception early in 1974, has been active in community affairs in his ward and has attended most council and planning committee meetings.
