Alliance is starting its tournament schedule ea_r1y this season as they travel to Trenton December 21 and 22. The team is in Barrie tonight (Wednesday). RICHMOND CURLING Questionnaire CLUB HILL The Thornhill Margell Thunderbirds Bantam A team were outscored 6-4 by Schomberg with the winners having the edge most of the way. Thornhill scored first when Bill Buckler found the mark assisted by Scott Martin and Wayne Grant. Schomberg promptly tied the score only to have Buckler scoring his second from Wayne Grant to put his team in front again. Scott Martin _made it 3-1 with assists to Buckler and Scott Fixter. Danny Kennedy had a beautiful breakaway only to be frustrated at the goal line. Danny got his next opportunity over the line to make it 4-1. Assists went to Mike Mudie and Doug Heron. Schomberg scored two fast goals to make it 4-3. Play went from end to end with \Schomberg finally tying it 4â€"4 and then moving ahead 5-4. Thornhill pulled its goalie and the strategy backfired as Schomberg scored on the empty net. Bantam AA Thornhill Guaranty Realty Goalie Jamie Davidson was goal-proof Thursday night as he led his teammates to a 3-0 shutout of Aurora. There was no scoring in the first period due to some tight forechecking by both clubs. It was a different story in the middle session as Thornhill‘s Mike Ein broke lose to put a fine goal at the six minute mark. Then came the second goal as Johns got the puck at the Aurora blueline and blistered a shot that hit Thornhill’s Tim Coughlin and deflected into the net. Jim Bell put the final goal in during the third period assisted by Dave Johns. Thornhill outshot Aurora 26- The Tâ€"Birds went down to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Richmond Hill Sunday as the visitors scored in the first 40 seconds on a breakaway. Richmond Hill made it 2-0 halfway through the period but Scott Howson put one past the Richmond Hill goalie on a pass from Darryl Marchant. Richmond Hill went on to score two more goals with Mike Egli getting the second one for Thornhill. Thornhill outshot Richmond Hill 17 to 12. Peewees Thorn'hill Fisher Brothers Peewees regained their pre- season form last Thursday and knocked off previously unbeaten Aurora 3-1. ‘This puts Thornhill in a tie for first place with Aurora with each having 5-1 records. The first two periods saw strong checking by both teams with the first goal going to Aurora on a penalty shot. Thornhill’s Duhee Lee was robbed in the same 20 minutes by a quick whistle. Thornhili came alive in the third period and com- pletely dominated play. Kurt Pearson scored from Paul Myers and Tod McKnight tied the score at 1:07. Rob Bagg finished off a play that he started outside the Aurora blueline at 2:56. Assists went to Lee and Paul Howson. Myers put the game out of reach at 8:44 on a persistent unassisted effort. He shot from the left point, moved in and stole the puck from a defender, deked around another player, and scored cleanly. With one player missing, Pearson and Howson were called on for extra duty and both came through when it counted. John Morris played his usual excellent game in goal with good protection from the defensive corps of Myers, Mark Wiltshire, John Rennicks and Steve Mallett. Close checking by all of the wingers, Rick Seeley, Jim Jones, Steve Sim, McKnight, Bagg and Lee, kept Aurora off balance during the game. The same Thornhill team took over sole poséession of first place Sunday with a 4-1 win over Richmond Hill. The boys were out to revenge their opening game loss in Richmond Hill and just about ran them out of the arena. Rob Bagg opened the scoring at 3:41 of the first with assists going to Duhee Lee and Kurt Pearson, and Lee scored the winning goal at 6:24. rIlhe play was set up by John Rennicks who moved the puck out of his own end and passed to Pearson in the centre zone. Pearson took it across the blueline, pulled the lone defenceman to the left and laid a perfect pass on Lee’s stick who made no mistake on his shot. Less than a minute later Tod McKnight scored from a scramble around the net. Steve Sim and Dan Anderson received assists. In the second period, Jim Jones, from Rick Seeley and Paul Myers made the score 4â€"0. At this point Fishers relaxed a little and John Th ornhi/l Marge/ls lose 6 â€"4 Morris was called on to make some spectacular saves. Richmond Hill finally scored one goal in the third on a breakaway. Thomhill’s season record is six wins and a loss. Minor Peewee Kevin Goble led Thornhill Thunderbirds Minor Peewees to a big 6-2 win Sunday over Aurora. Rob Humphries scored an unassisted goal at the 48 second mark to open the scoring. Joe Danckert sent Scott Daly down the wing at 3:20 and he passed to Troy Bradley who made no error in scoring At the 4:56 mark Steven Tschipper passed to Grant Davidson who put Rob Humphries in alone to score his second goal Mike Sherwood, playing a strong game, sent Kevin Goble in for his first goal at 6:32 and end the period 4-0. Thornhill started strongly in .the second when Tim Wilson passed to Mike Sherwood who sent Goble in to score his second goal. Aurora came on strong and scored at 2:34 to make it 5-1. Both teams played well and at the 3:4i mark Steven Tuckey passed to Mike Sherwood who made a play on the goalie and then passed to Kevin Goble who made no error in scoring his third goal of the game. Aurora scored at the two minute mark of the final period and from there on in the game was even. Goble and Mike Sherwood came up with excellent games. Thornhill outshot Aurora 27- 26. It was a different story November 14 as Barrie walloped them 7-1 in Barrie and outshot them 43-7. Superlative goaltending by Thornhill’s Anthony Risi kept the score down as it was. Thornhill Bantam's Scott Martin slips the puck past Schomberg‘s Goalie Stephen “Peewee” Jackson in some split second action Sunday night at Thornhill Community Centre complex. It didn’t work out quite as good the rest of the way as Schomberg went on to win 6-4. The line of Scott Daly, Troy Badley and Joe Danckert saved Thornhill from a shutout as Bradley scored. Atom Richmond Hill downed Thornhill H & S Reliance 4-1 Saturday. Scott Thorn played a fine game in goal and made an excellent save in the second period when Richmond Hill had a three on two rush against and he pulled the puck out of the air Richmond Hill came back with a two on one break and managed to scpre. Kent Davidson scored early in the third on a pass from David Wood who carried the puck from his own end into the Richmond Hill zone. Richmond Hill retaliated with a quick goal and scored another in the last two minutes to make the final score read 4-1. H. and S. Reliance made its best showing of the season Sunday although losing by 2-1 to Newmarket. Simply oqthckeq. Most of the play during the first period was in the Newmarket end. Jim Boyce came up with some great saves throughout the game but Newmarket managed to get a goal past him by crowding the net and blocking his view. Thomhill seemed to tire in the first four minutes of the second but picked up quickly to outplay and outshoot Newmarket 10 to 3. Jim Gourlay, assisted by Neil Crebbin and John Lee, tied the game at 9:03 of the final 20 minutes. 'I‘homhill again carried most of the play until the final two minutes when Newmarket scored from an off-side pass He shoots, he scores which wasn’t noticed by referees The Thornhill Atom B team bowed by 7-2 to Orillia November 15 although they played well except for a few defensive lapses. John Bourrie scored the first Thornhill goal on a breakaway in the second period. Thornhill continued to apply pressure with Jimmy Paul finally scoring with assists going to Cliff Holtz and Paul Kates. Defencemen Tony Flegar and Brian Bertrand gave solid performances. The Thornhill boys were beaten by an aggressive Stroud squad by 6-0. Thoi‘nhill rebounded from the above losses with a 3-2 win over Schomberg Sunday night recording their first win of the season. The score was tied with only seven seconds remaining when defenceman Brian Bertrand fed a pass to Jimmy Paul who sent it to John Bourrie. Bourrie sailed in front of the Schomberg net and fired a perfect shot home. The first Thornhill goal came in the first period as Bourrie scored assisted by wingers Cliff Holtz and Jimmy Paul. Holtz scored from Bourrie in the second. Tonko Inhat played a strong game in the nets coming up with some key saves. The Thornhill OMHA Glaverbel Midgets dropped a 4-2 game to Barrie November 12 at Thomhill. Defensive lapses and inadequate checking by the Thornhill team enabled Barrie to take a com- manding 4-1 lead early in the third period. Glaverbel blew several excellent scoring op- portunities in the second period because of erratic shooting. They managed to put it together late in the second period moving a consistent attack which saw Mark Steele blasting home a Rob Browning pass from the point for Thor- nhill’s second goal. Brent Dunneit tipped in a shot from Cal McCathie early in the first period to deadlock the score at 1-1. DeSpite the loss, Dave Virgo played a strong game in the nets for the Glaver- bels Thornhill’s defeat dropped them to fourth place in the league stan- dings. Minor midget “It looks like its coming together. And it’s about time", states Thornhill Minor Midget Coach Ed Windsor. His comments followed a 2-2 draw against a powerful Richmond Hill opponent “We’ve been struggling to move the puck and, score some goals but maybe now our hard work is starting to pay some dividends” added Windsor. Thornhill moved into a two-goal lead on goals by Patrick Bertrand who played a strong game throughout. In past seasons Bertrand has always been puck smart and dangerous around the net. This year, playing on a line with Jason Hurlbut and Tim Thompson, he is skating strongly and it looks like it‘ll be a good season for this threesome. Bertrand’s first goal was unassisted. His second was the result of tough work THORNHILL MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION (Photo bv Daw) behind the Richmond Hill net and a sharp pass-out from Hurlbut. Thompson also earned an assist on this score. Richmond Hill blooped one from the blue line that Randy Paul had trouble with because of the fog that covered the ice surface. Defenceman David Barr stickhandled all the way through the Richmond Hill team to score what apâ€" peared to be the clincher. Unfortunately, however, the goal was disallowed because a Thornhill player was in the crease. Richmond Hill scored within minutes to tie score and after consultation the game was called because of fog conditions. The same Thornhill team went down to a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Newmarket November 10 despite a last period rally which had the winners holding on. A Thornhill penalty started Thornhill’s downfall with Newmarket scoring its fourth goal and then following with number five and six, all unanswered. Coach Windsor tried some changes in the game by mixing up some lines. He brought Jerome Flanagan up from the Church league, moved Matt Nicholls to left wing and Captain Dave Lovatt to defence. High spot of the game was the superlative goalscoring ability of Pat Bertrand who scored two unassisted goals, one of them when Thornhill was playing Shorthanded. Defenceman Keith Turner continues to improve every time out and players like Coville, McEwen and Barr persevere in hard work that will result in increased success. Minor bantam A 1-1 tie for the Thomhill Minor Bantams November 6 against Barrie as Coach Jim Grant tried something different in this game by holding a very aggressive warm-up in an effort to overcome slow starts which have haunted his team this season. It worked in the first period as Thornhill moved the puck out of its own end well. Some good positional hockey resulted in a goal at 5:30 of the second as Ian- nuzzi deflected Davidson’s shot from the blue line. Haggerty also received an assist. The third period was very even with both goalies making some brilliant saves. Thornhill’s defen- cemen played well in front of their goalie. Some careless clearing by Thornhill resulted in Barrie tying the score two minutes later. Aurora had too much offence and defence going for the Thornhil] Foto-Set team November 9, losing 3â€" The first period was scoreless but Aurora moved into a 2-0 lead in the second. Thornhill tried to come back in the third and had three tremendous opportunities in the first five minutes but couldn’t beat the Aurora netminder. Aurora earned its win by scoring on an empty net with 15 seconds remaining and Thornhill with an extra attacker. The Thornhill Foto-Set team had better luck in a November 13 game against Richmond Hill tying them 3- Minor Bantams tie 3-3 Richmond Hill’s Minor Bantam “A” hockey team travelled to Thornhill November 13 and came home with a 3-3 tie. The scoring did not take long to begin as the Ram’s Richard Hughes opened with an unassisted effort at 0:19 seconds. The home team bounced back on a goal by Andy MacCallum with an assist going to Mark Haggertt. The Richmond Hill team again took the lead when Jeff Joslin’s long slapshot hit the glass behind the net and rebounded into the goal off the Thornhill goalie. I Mike Davidson’s goal from Keith Sutch tied the game for Thornhill late in the second period. Just 34 seconds had elapsed in the third period when Dave Plaxton deflected Gary Carvin’s shot from the point into the Thornhill goal. Midway through the final period Haggertt tied the game for Thornhill when he Thornhill started slowly in the first period and found themselves behind 1-0 before they got going. They evened the score when Rich- mond Hill ran into a penalty and McCallum tipped in their first goal from Mark Haggarty and Bren Macken The second period saw Richmond Hill score a fluke goal when icing the puck while Thornhill was shorâ€" thanded. The referee failed to call the icing and when the puck rebounded off the boards it deflected into the net off of the goalie. The referee allowed the goal to stand and it was 2-1. Mike Davidson got on even terms in the third period as he drove in a quick pass from Keith Sutch. Richmond Hill then came back with a power play goal off a shot from the point. Mark Haggarty scored the final and tying goal when he poked in a loose puck with the Richmond Hill goalie down. He was assisted by Morley and Macken. Major bantam The Thornhill Major A Bantam Thunderbirds decisioned Oak Ridges 4-2 led by the two goal effort of Mike Mudie. Other goals went to Ian Billich and Wayne Grant. The contest started off on a cautious note with the forwards on both clubs working hard. There were several scoring op- portunities for both teams in the second and third periods with Thornhili‘s Scott Martin narrowly missing a goal on one breakaway. Mudie scored the first goal by Thornhill assisted by Dan Kennedy. Oak Ridges tied the game but the same Mudie put Thornhill in front 2-1 again from Ken- nedy and Glen Perrett. Then came a score by Billich from Drew Broadbridge to make it 3-1 before Oak Ridges fought back to narrow the count to 3-2. Grant scored Thornhill's final goal tipping in Scott Martin’s pass. The Margell Bantams had a squeaker against Scarboro Sharks and, unfortunately, came out on the wrong end of a 4-3 score in an exciting contest. Mike Parkinson opened the scoring for Thomhill on a hard drive from a pass out by Drew Broadridge. The same Broadridge made it 2- Oon an assist by Ian Billick. Scarboro came back with two well-earned goals to tie the game and then moved in front to stay on a game- winning counter. Thorhhill pressed hard in the late stages but couldn’t break through. Egg burger fair feature A popular feature at the Royal Winter Fair, which continues to Saturday at the CNE grounds, is the egg burger. The Ontario Egg Producers‘ Marketing Board, Willowdale, says last year over 1,000 dozen eggs were consumed tucked between hot buns with a slice of cheese. They were a particular hit with riding teams who were making the egg burger their breakfast. How it's done The board’s consultant, consumer services, Dorothy Batcheller, provides the recipe for the home cook: Break one or two eggs into a moderately hot, lightly buttered frying pan. Stir egg slightly with fork or pan- cake turner to break yolk and mix streakily with white. Keep egg formed like a pancake-to'fit on a bun turn and cook other side; Transfer to bottom half of hot toasted or plain ham- burger bun. Top with slice of cheese, slice of tomato and remaining half of bun. drilled a Bren Macken pass behind the Ram goalie. Both Tom Morris and Richmond Hill's Ricky Warren played outstanding games in their respective nets. n____:_ The ever tough Barrie Minor Bantams invaded Richmond Hill last Sunday afternoon but had to settle for a 3-3 tie with the local Rams. In the first period Barrie blitzed for two quick goals. The Rams finally got un- derway when Jim Majury popped a loose puck past the Barrie goalie. But before the period ended Barrie had regained their two goal lead The score remained 2-H until 3.22 of the third stanzaj when Scott Bartlett drove home a Richard Hughes' rebo'und. The Hillers tied it up on a goal by Bruce Buchan. an assist on the play going to Tim Reaume. ‘ITfie teanVs future engagements are in Aurora Saturday and at home Sunday.
