Rich vale A toms defeat Woodbridge Atom Richvale Atoms handed Woodbridge a 5â€"2 defeat December 13, opening up strongly and keeping the pressure on but didn’t score till 6:32 of the first when Allan Evelyn counted on a pass from Craig Wolfenden. Woodbridge tied the score two minutes later. Rams whip Rangers 6-4, move into third With just 20 seconds gone in the second period, Evelyn scored on a breakaway to put Richvale back in front. On a very pretty three-way passing play John DeHaas counted assisted by Evelyn and Eddy Iafano. Two minutes later, Steve Mettel took a pass from Blair Bugden and blasted a shot past the goalie. Woodbridge got one goal back before the end of the second period. Evelyn completed the scoring, getting his third goal of the night on a breakaway. The defense pairs of Iafano and Wolfenden and Simon Boswell and John Evelyn turned in strong games. Unionville managed to squeeze out a 2â€"1 win over Richvale December 15.. In previous contests this season Unionville had defeated Richvale 11-1 and 7-1. Both teams opened strongly but good goaltending at both ends prevented any early scoring. At the six minute mark Unionville finally scored a power play goal for the only tally of the first stanzai Robbie Johnson played his best game of the year in goal, making several big saves. In the second Richvale had several chances to pull even but just couldn’t score. In the third period, Unionville scored at the four-minute mark. Steve Mattel finally scored for Richvale from Blair Bugden but Unionville hung on to win. Peewee Gullo Enterprise defeated Woodbridge 2-0 at Bond Lake December 13. In their first encounter Woodbridge had taken a 3-1 decision. Paul Gulio registered his first shutout of the season as he played a solid game in the net. There was no scoring in the first two periods as both teams checked closely. Shawn McDowell broke the ice when he tallied unassisted at 7:51 of the third period. With less than a minute left Woodbridge pulled their goalie to try to tie the score but this manoeuvre backfired as Paul Dimock scored with four seconds left with Spiers and Losberg being awarded the assists. A really big win was recorded December 15 as Richvale defeated Union- ville 1-0 as it was the first time Gullo Enterprises have ever won in Unionville. Paul Gullo came up with his second shutout of the year in two consecutive games. Unionville pressed in the first ‘period buL failed to score. There was no scoring in the second period and it wasn't until late in the third when Unionville received three penalties with less than three minutes left that Gullo Enterprise scored. Insherg was the marksman after receiving a pass from Randy DePiero. Bantam Dan Iafano accounted for the only goal as Richvale defeated Allison 1-0 with Brian Celsie helping. This was an excellent game by both teams. Stuart Ellis was outstanding in goal and the defensemen played ex- tremely well coupled with good solid backchecking by all forwards to win this one. Richvale and Woodbridge fought to a 1-1 tie as John Vorich netted the puck for the locals. Chris Butler played well in goal and every member of the team turned in a fine effort. It was a different story December 15 in Unionville as Richvale took a 9-0 shellacking at the hands of their hosts. For Richvale Stuart Ellis and Chris Butler tried hard. Midget In a hard-fought game Richvale defeated Oak Ridges 3-2 Sunday. Special mention goes to Ron Maheau and Trevor Basser. Goalgetters were Rick Mills, Graham Hobbs and Bob Hogg with assists from Bill Reynolds and Ian Hunter. Juvenile What started out to be disaster ~ for Richvale December 11 when they fell behind Newmarket by three fast goals near the end of the first period turned into a 6-4 victory as the Hillcrest Mall boys came back with four straight goals in the second and carried on to win. They carried the play for the first seven minutes of the first period but couldn’t score. The second was their big period as Greg Payne fired in the first tally from the blue line, assisted by Bruce Bailey and Chris Demeo. Then Peter Fraser scored despite the fact that he was down in front of the net. He was helped by Chris Amodeo and Payne. Brian Murchison, Dave Hartwick and Reid Warner carried off some fine passing around the Newmarket net with Murchison scoring. Ken Ablett from Bob Mills and Bailey finished the scoring in that period for Richvale and Newmarket got another with less than two minutes left to tie the score at 4â€"4. With five minutes to go in the third, it was Fraser again, unassisted this time and Mills from Steve Wilson ended the scoring. Richvale fell behind Bolton by two goals December 15, but again came through to win, this time 7-2. A surprisingly strong Bolton team had the pressure on from the start. Payne started Richvale on its way in the second with his first goal of three. Assisting was Dave Hart- wick. Richvale scored two more in the second, one from Ken Ablett assisted by Gord Lloyd and Bob Mills and Payne’s second of the night from Fraser and Demeo. The third period was rich- vale’s all- the way with Payne getting his hat trick on a solo effort and Hart- wick counting two on assists by Reid Warner, Payne and Demeo. Then Siege Pflug from Amodeo and Fraser made it 7-2. Stars of the game were Payne and Boswell who played a tremendous defensive game. Rick Febbo two goals The Richmond Hill Provincial Junior ‘A’ Rams are suddenly breathing the rarified air of third place in waning 1974 and they show definite signs of liking it. Injuries proved to be no barrier to the Rams Saturday night of last week as they overcame a 2â€"0 deficit to outscore the North York Rangers by 6â€"4. The win gave the Rams sole possession of third place although the league is so tightly-bunched that a club can go from third to sixth or seventh from one game to the other. Leading the Richmond Hill victory was ailing Rick Febbo, ex-bad boy of the league, with two goals. He was matched by high scoring Kevin Street with another pair. Triumphant return Febbo was making a triumphant return after limping from the ice in the previous 2-2 tie with Whitby. Still missing from the line- up were defencemen Scott Mabley and Jim Roffey and centreman Dave Stuart. This didn’t seem to deter the determined Rams who survived a flat first period which saw them down two goals to nothing and outshot 17-7. They came out skating in the third with three con- secutive goals only to have the Rangers go ahead again when Joe Kovacs scored his second goal of the game and Steve Palmateer added another one two minutes later. Guest scores Rams’ defenceman Guest sewed the game up with a shot from the point soon after. Coming up with extra strong efforts were Glen Balfour and Mitch Edwards who were confronting their former North York team- mates for *the first time since leaving that club. Balfour in' particular made a nice play on Kim- ble’s tally which saw him carry right up ice and pass to Kimble right in front on a bang-bang play. Street has been the chief sharp-shooter for the Rams who figured to be suffering in this department after losing Mike Hartman to university hockey after several seasons of top goal scoring. Street was a cut from the Marlie Major A’s. Holding down second spot is currently injured Dave Stuart with 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points. Richmond Hill's Dave “Digger” Dunkley con- tinues to have his problems finding the net but more than makes up for it with his “digging". He has five goals and 19 assists for 24 points. Continuing his fine play this season is Rick Febbo with 18 goals and six assists for 24 points. Febbo has been staying out of the penalty box and the results show on the scoreboard. Top scoring defenceman for the Rams is big Scott Mabley with 20 points on four goals and 16 assists. Mabley has also missed two recent games due to injuries. .33: 1°29
