12 -â€" THE LIBERAL Tuesday, Dec.31.1974 Mrs. Laura (Cox) Holman buried at Thornhill Cemetery The Christmas season was saddened for members of the Cox and Holman families when Mrs. Laura (Cox) Holman died December 21 at Bronson Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Holman, widow of the late Oscar Cox, was a respected member of this community for many years when she and Mr. Cox lived at the farm on Highway 7 near the 5th Concession of Markham. The farm is now owned by William Cham- pion. The Cox family far- med there from 1919 to 1946. During those years Mrs. Cox was associated with Brown’s Corners United Church and an active member of Buttonville WI. Mr. Cox died in 1939, and Mrs. Cox married Arthur Holman of West Toronto in 1944. For several years Mr. and Mrs. Holman lived at Markham on Peter Street until they moved to Willowdale 10 years ago. A widely attended service was held Tuesday of last week at the Ring Funeral Home Thornhill with Rev. Allen Hallett of Brown‘s Corners United Church officiating. Interment was at Thornhill Cemetery. Pall bearers were nephews Douglas Cox, Maple; Harold Ground, Richmond Hill; Roy Harrison, Victoria Square; Bill Thomas, Thornhill; Lawrence Coulson, Burlington; and George Harrison, Mississauga. Surviving with her husband are five sons, Russell of Windsor, Harvey of Willowdale (former Chief of Police for Markham Township), Edgar of Markham, Clifford (sergeant of detectives with York Regional Police) of Gormley; Robert of Blenheim; two daughters, Hazel, (Mrs. Russell Olsen of Willowdale) and Muriel (Mrs. Paul Hickey), Willowdale; and one step- daughter, Arlene, Mrs. John Niven. Also there are 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Sabbaticals to 3 teachers Sabbatical leave has been granted to three teachers by York County Board of Education. Receiving leave were Donald Anderson and Douglas Allen of Thomlea Secondary School, and Douglas Threndyle of Langstaff Secondary School. Masters degree Anderson, a vice- principal will take courses in educational adâ€" ministration at OISE leading to a Master of Education degree. Stouffville Lions give wheelchairs Wheelchairs are available to the disabled in Stouffville on a short-term loan basis, thanks to the local Lions Club. . Disabled in the com- munity who wish to shop or visit a friend may borrow one of the three chairs donated to Parkview Home recently by the club. The chairs will also be used by residents of the home who wish to visit family or take an outing. Parkview manager Herb Diller says loan time will be limited to 12 to 24 hours.
