20 â€" THE LIBERAL. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 197-1 YRP drug raid, man cruising with gun Police b/o tz‘er A search by police of a Richmond Hill apartment Friday resulted in the arrest of three youths on charges of possession of marijuana. Detective John Morrison, Constable Ivor Vitins and an RCMP drug squad from Newmarket conducted the search at Apartment 407, 274 Cedar Avenue, about 6:15 pm. The search produced a quantity of marijuana, plus a set of scales and other. gear used for mixing chemicals, police said. Arrested were Roy Paltanin, 18, and Mathew Hinton, 17, both of Cedar Avenue, and Robert Toms, 18, of Longbridge Road Thornhill. Their court appearance is scheduled for January 28. Cedar Avenue was also the locale for another little drama in which police made an arrest. Police said they received a call Thursday at 2:40 pm from a citizen to the effect a man was cruising the area in his car with a gun. A check of the district was made and a man, with a Savage rifle, was sub- sequently arrested in Bayview Plaza. Facing charges of Markham Trustee Sim objects strenuously to electio York County Board of- Education Trustee Donald Sim says he, objects strenuously to a leaflet listing a slate of trustee candidates circulated three days before the recent municipal elections. The one-page notice was circulated by a group calling itself the Concerned Parents of Markham. It called on voters concerned about education in York and “a better future for our children" to vote for five candidates. Sim’s name was on the list with the names of Frank Barrott, Walter Gula, Chris McMonagle and Doris Sch- war. Of the five, only Sim and McMonagle were elected. A letter from Lillian Grammer of Alcaine Court, Thornhill, printed in The Liberal December 11, commended Doreen Quirk, Gary Adamson and Donald Cousens for “not lending their names to this type of subterfuge." But in a later letter to a r Trustee Sim Denies involvement local newspaper, Sim said he does not know who belongs to this group and was given no advance notice his name would appear in the literature. “I do not condone the action they took and indeed, in my opinion, it was irresponsible," Sim wrote in his letter. “I do not believe any n pamphlet group can properly characterize itself as “The Concerned Parents of Markhamâ€. “In the second place, I object most strongly to literature being put out under an anonymous name of that kind which does not give the name of a person, an address or a telephone number where those responsible for the statements made and the action taken can be con- tacted and identified. “Finally, I object to the material because I disagreed with many of the statements made in the literature and the tactic of distributing it just before the election when no rebuttal could be made. “Unfortunately a can- didate cannot be held responsible for the actions of those who support his candidacy,†he wrote. Along with the leaflet distributed, there was the personal campaign literature of the other four candidates named. 7 Funerals for Herb Boynton, Leslie Hart A former Victoria Square boy, Herb.
