8 â€" THE LIBERAL, Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1975 Richvale, Bra ATOM In a fast. exciting hockey game December 27 at Bond Lake Arena Richvale and Bradford ended up in a 4-all tie. The visitors opened the scoring quickly before the two minute mark. A minute later Ben Carbone dug the puck out of the corner and passed it to John DeHaas who slid it to Paul Daurigon and Paul banged it in to win the score. ‘ Then Allan Evelyn scored from Simon Boswell and Tim Boswell to put Richvale ahead Allan scored again from John deHaas to make it 3â€"1 at the end of the first period. Halfway through the second Tim Boswell banged in a centering pass from Steve Mettel to put Richvale up by three. Then Bradford began a comeback getting two counters before the end of the period and the tying goal with less than a minute gone in the third. The rest of the game was filled with fast-skating. up- and-down hockey by both teams but the score remained tied at 44. In Alliston the next day Richvale Atoms opened up their heavy barrage and came home with an 11-2 victory. Defenseman Eddy Iafano scored Richvale's first two goals. the first from Durigan and deHaas. the second from Durigon and Carbone. Before the end of the first period Brian Mason made it 3-0 from Blair Bugden and Evelyn. Early in the second Tracy Warner banged in Evelyn's rebound and Durigan scored from deHaas and Iafano. With less than a minute left in the period Iafano made it 6-0 on a solo effort. Alliston scored its first goal early in the third but Richvale came right back as Mettel scored from Tim Boswell and Bugden. Iafano scored his fourth goal of the contest from Warner. Brian Mason got his second goal by banging in the rebound from Craig Wolfenden‘s blast from the point. Then Mettel scored from Simon Boswell and Wolfenden. Alliston scored to make it 10- 2. Durigon rounded out the scoring with his second goal and fourth point of the night on a pass from Carbone. With this victory the Rich» vale team now has an even record of six wins. six losses and two ties. PEEWEE Gullo Enterprise hosted the Knights of Columbus from Willowdale January 3 in an exhibition game and defeated them 2-1. Scoring for Richvale were Spiers and dePiero with Losberg. Adams and McLeIlan getting the assists. The next day Gullo Enterprise defeated Alliston 3-2. The Richvale lads came out skating right from the drop of the puck and scored all their goals in the first period. Randy dePiero scored just 31 seconds after the start with Barry Jesson and Freibauer getting assists. Jesson scored just 14 seconds later with Shawn McDowell helping. McLellan made it 3-0 at 3:11 with the assist coming from dePiero. Alliston scored two unanswered goals in the second period to come within one of tying the score. There was no scoring in the third but Alliston pulled their goalie in the last minute of play .to try to tie it up but failed as Gullo held ’Ridges juves whip Nobleton The Oak Ridges Lions _Club Juveniles downed Nobleton 6-3 led by the two goal efforts of John Len- neville and Alan Heintzman Lenneville also contributed three assists and Heintzman two. Other goals went to Wayne Roffey and Cam Cummings with Peter McConnachie drawing two assists and singles going to Terry Legge and Dale Roffey. Goalie was Ken Summers. The Lions went on to outscore Stroud 7-4 in another league game with two goal contributions from Lenneville and Heintzman again with Wayne Roffey also adding a brace. Heintzman also drew two assists. Other assists went to Robert Herd with two and Cam Cummings. Robert Fortier was in goal. The Oak Ridges Alex Brockton Midgets bombed Orillia 11â€"1 as well as downing King 6-2 but, alas. losing to Maple by 5-4. That Orillia game saw Dale Roffey leading the offensive with three goals followed by Bruce Wilton and Brad Jotham with two apiece. Wilton also picked up an assist. Other points went to Glen Wright with a goal and an assist; Paul Smith and John Metcalfe. goal each; Tony Roffey. six assists; Karl Taylor. two assists. and single assists to Jim Gerber, Chris Smith. and Goalie Terry Robinson. The Oak Ridges Bantams split two games in league play winning 3-0 over Orillia and losing 2~0 to Maple. They won an exhibition match by 3-1 over Sharon. The Oak Ridges Atoms edged Maple 1-0 in a league game on a late goal which was scored by John Lalonde. Coming up with the shutout was Bill McArther. An exhibition match saw Oak Ridges Peewees shut out 5-0 by Newmarket. House League Bantam action saw Oak Ridges decisioning Richvale 4â€"2 with Steve Michalsky scoring three goals and Vern Therian one. Nick Nicaloff was in goal. Gullo's Adams hit the dford fight to 4â€"4 tie goalpost with the goalie lying on the ice. Chianelli had the goalie beaten but somehow he came through with the big save by catâ€" ching the puck and Paul Dimock missed a scoring chance when his backhand hit the crossbar. Unionville scored four more times in the second and third periods. BANTAM Richvale Bantams lost to Alliston 3-2 December 20. The locals' first goal was scored by Brian Hobbs assisted by Dale Banton and Steve Cromb late in the first period. Alliston answered with two in the second period and their last goal Hillcrest Juveniles reach finals but lose Richvale Hillcrest Mall reached the finals of the "A" Division of the Trenton Tournament in December. In their first game they upset Barrie 4-2, something they have been unable to do so far in league play this year. Barrie opened the scoring at the five minute mark but Ken Ablett tied it up almost immediately with assists going to Bob Mills and Steve Wilson. The second period was a repetition as again Barrie scored and it was Brian Murchison from Wayne Johnson who tied it up. The whole team played well but Murchison and Johnson stood out. The third period saw Richvale take over as Dave Hartwick scored twice. the first unassisted right at the start and the second on a good passing play from Greg Payne and Reid Warner. The second game was closer as Hillcrest Mall edged out Newmarket 2-1. There was no scoring in the first period which saw some fine saves from both goalies. Richvale opened things up when Ken Ablett scored the first goal with an assist to Mark Boswell. Newmarket tied it up before the second period was over and it was not until less than four minutes were left to play that Greg Payne broke away on a lone effort and scored the winner. In the third game for the “A” division championship Richvale met Richmond Hill in a very even game. Rich- vale Goalie Mario dePiero played excellent hockey in the first period. Richmond Hill took a 1~0 lead on a goal by Don McPhee assisted by Tom. Lamb and Dave Berseth near the end of the first period. Early in the second period Richvale came back to tie it up on a goal by Gordon Lloyd aided by Bob Mills and Wilson. With eight minutes to go in the third Goalie de Piero was hurt by a blazing slapshot on the thumb of his catching hand. Within seconds his thumb had swollen alarmingly and it appeared that he would be unable to continue playing. After a discussion with the coaching staff, this young man refused to come out of the game. and played well for the remainder. However. within the next few minutes the Hillers got two goals to give them a 3-1 lead. the scorers being John Oakley and Rich Hopson. Richvale struck for a goal with 2.54 left, Chris Demeo being the scorer with help from Ablett. making the final score Richmond Hill 3, .Richvale 2. Richmond Hill went on to win the grand championship of the tour- nament. The local bantams put up a great fight in Unionville January 5. Unionville got two goals in the first period and one in the second. Then Richvale came to life with their first goal on a breakaway pass by Keith Coxworthy to Jim Mark. With 54 seconds left to play Cromb let fly with a slapshot from the blueline that the goalie didn‘t see. However Richvale could not buy the tying goal and lost 3-2. MITRE-ET Nortowii Transmission lost a 7-5 decision to Bradford December 27 in a game which showed lack of effort. They let up in the third period December 22 and lost to Alliston 5-4, Again on January 3 the third period saw Nortown Transmission let tip and Oak Ridges come out with a 5-2 win. Another loss was suffered January 5 as L'nionville scored a 3~l win over Nor- town Transmission. ’& .
