Slumping Richvale Atoms lose Atoms Richvale Atoms extended their slump to four games January 16 losing to Sharon 2-0 in a close-checking game. In spite of the loss. there were signs of hope as both pairs of defense, Eddy Iafano and Craig Wolfender, John Evelyn and Simon Boswell, played extremely strong games. Bob Johnson was also very sharp in goal and had no chance on either tally. But Richvale seems to have difficulty in effectively moving the puck out of their own end. Carlisle Real Estate beat Thorncrest Motel 3â€"1 in a well played game with Gordy Peters scoring twice and Jim Formenton once. Assits were by Gordy Peters, Nils Norheim, Jim Formenton and Cosimo Bernoldi. 'The Thomcrest goal came from David Abernethy who was set up by Shawn O‘Brian and Mark Rothwell. Atom Billy Mitchell, with three goals and one assist, was the outstanding player as his team. Rendezvous, defeated Music Shoppe 6-2. More than 300 attended. Penetang opened the scoring at 6:54 on a goal by Ken Scott from Charles Pearson. The Penetang team kept up the pressure and scored their second goal at 11:54 from Alvin Roberts. Penetang continued to dominate the period and scored two late period goals. one at 15:52 with Larry Gregoire scoring from M. Dormo and Alvin Roberts scoring at 16:09 from ConraduMaloney ending the first period 4-0. The second period got off to a slow start with Penetang scoring at 9:36 with M. Dormo scoring. The Kings weren’t out of it yet as they kept skating and managed to score 22 seconds later with John McBain scoring from Robin Ayres. Penetang came back and scored at the 15 - minute mark of the period on a goal by Larry Gregoire. Again, 25 seconds later Robin Ayres scored for the Kings unassisted, but at 16:08, Penetang were at it again with M. Glen Smith contributed two goals, Alexander Kalles a goal and four assists, Ronald Johnson a goal and two assists while Dennis Brooker and Denis Richard had single goals and single assists went to Gary McKechnie and Tom Hader. R&R's only goal went to Paolo DelPlavignano aided by Robert Williams and Brian Watts. Raymore Construction squeezed by WP Motors 3-2. Charlie Penfold in the WP net played a standout game to hold the score close. In the third stanza Loughlin was plagued with penalties and United took advantage of this to score three goals. Danny Curry and John Mark with two assists each and Dominic Pacitto with one assist. Ron Keeting scored unaided for Loughlin. Midget Richvale's Suburban Landscaping eked out a 2-1 win over Oak Ridges Well Drillers January 18. Rich- vale scored at 8:02 of the first period on a lone effort by Frank Smith. As the third period got under way. it appeared the Kings finally realized they were in a hockey game and with some good checking and fast skating. they managed to score three goals in the first 10 minutes of play. The local lads never did get rolling and had little to show for their efforts except a goal by Ken Ablett on some hard work by Dave Hartwick and Greg Payne in the third period. l The outstanding feature of the game was the 25 penalties handed out. which reflect the rough play throughout the game. Midget Woodbridge jumped into an early lead January 17 and ended in a 5-2 win over Nortown Transmission. Woodbridge got two quick goals in the first period with Harold Simpson getting one for Nortown late in the first assisted by Wayne McCartney.. Gary Langfield came right Bill Cromb Two defensive lapses in the third period enabled Woodbridge (who have lost only two league games all year) to score twice more. Captain Bill Cromb led Nortown Transmission to a 2-2 tie with Sharon January 19. scoring both goals. The first was unassisted and the second was set up by Langield. Greg McDowell, Gerd Buck, John Maticiak and Pat Hudema con- tributed a solid effort on defense with Mike Johnson turning in a good per- formance in goal. PEEWEE Gullo Enterprise played Unionville January 10 for the last time this season in league play and lost 7-1. Unionville won three of the four games played. Gullo scored at 2:14 of the first period when Losberg took a Freibauer pass, raced down the ice and rifled the puck past the Unionville goalie.
