24 -â€" THE LIBERAL, Wednesday, Feb. Saturday January 25 the Maple European Delicatessen Bantams participated in the Havelock Bantam Tournament. Their first game at noon, was against last year’s OMHA semi-finalists Stirling and they were defeated 4-0. ’ < ...:.l;. ucncauvu . V It was an exciting wide open game from start to finish and the Maple team really put forth a good ef- fort. This win put Maple into the consolation final against the host team Havelockt With just an hour’s rest the Maple boys came out flying and defeated Havelock 7-0. Dave Cook and Kim sWeese shared the shut-out. Scoring goals were Blair Sutherland three, Darwin Oldfield, Dave Massarella, Greg Munshaw and Bruce West. Assists to Darwin, Oldfield three, Scott Lawson two, Wayne Boudreau two, Dave Massarella and Russ Homer. The team was presented with a trophy for their ef- forts which is on display in the trophy case at Maple Arena. Prior to going to Havelock, Maple closed their regular season games at Maple Arena on Friday January 25 with a 6-1 win against King City. It was a close game for two periods with Maple leading 2-1 at the end of the second period. In the third Maple scored four goals. , Scoring for Maple were Steve LeMoine. Blair Sutherland, Greg Munshaw, Wayne Boudreau, Dave Taylor and Per Nielson. Assists to Per Nielson two, Dave Taylor, Derrick Hoare. Dale Line, Pat Massarella, _Steve LeMoine, and Darwin Oldfield. Maple Bantams ended the season with a 17-5 win loss record which gives them second place in the eight team league behind undefeated Schomberg. The team now enters the OMHA elimination play-offs and receives a bye to the finals on February 16. PEE WEE In a game against Barrie January 15, Maple White ATOMS IGA defeated Alexander Hardware 7â€"2 January 25: lGA’s Peter Conte scored three goals and one assist, Tim Line one goal and three assists, Paul Strangways and Bruce Plunkett a goal and assist each and Ricky Pflug one goal. Scoring for Alexander were Lee Ferguson and Benjie Fulgham, a goal and assist each. 0n the same day Brock and Higgens defeated Continental Safety Shoes 7- 2. Carl Lippay for Brock and Higgens earned himself a hat trick and two assists, also scoring ‘ were Garry Occhionero two goals and two assists and Rochi De Vonno two goals. Assists to Chris Burroughs and Steven Grahlman. Scoring for Continental were Danny Candino assisted by Kirk Ivens and Peter McAteer assisted by Glen Hawkins. PEEWEE BANTAMS Maple Farms Bruce Sheilds sparked his team with three goals and two assists to a 8-4 victory over Superior Propane. Close behind were Philip Notaro two goals and three assists and Allen Rotz with two goals and two assists. Scoring a single goal was Barry Key. On the score sheet for Superior were Mike Constable two goals and an assist, Brad Demeo one goal and one assist, and IGA wallops Alexander 7-2 Maple hockey the Maple Strip Construction Pee Wees were defeated 3â€"1. The Maple Pee Wees defeated Richmond Hill 2-1 January 24 in their final league game. Both teams played good hard hockey. In Net for Maple was Robert Amos. ATOMS Maple Dominion Engineering Welding Atoms played the second Rich- mond Hill Atom team January 24 and were 6-1. Maple’s lone goal was by Scott Usher from Harold Kaiser. “v... --_. ___ , Two days later Maple visited Richmond Hill for an exhibition game, this time against the Hill Minor Atoms and they came away with a 6-1 victory. Scoring for Maple: Branko Kordez three, Sandy Grant, Harold Kaiser and Scott Usher. Assists to Scott Usher three, Danny Alessandrini three, Andrew Bittner, Branko Kordez, Tony Giancola and David Price. In the last league game before the play-offs Maple Atoms found themselves down 3-1 to Nobleton with 1:55 to go in the game. Pulling the goalie for an extra attacker, David Price scored from Tony Giancola with 38 seconds left. With just 3 seconds to go, Tony Giancola got the tieing goal fr)m Scott Usher.
