In the championship game at Richvale February 16 the Oak Ridges Cougars defeated Loughlin Lumber 5-1 and received the Premium Gas Bar Trophy. Marksmen for Oak Ridges were John Cummins. John Vanderploeg, Roy Petry, Steve Harris and Bill Carswell. Earning assist points were Cummins with three, Vanderploeg, Car- swell and Petry. ' MIDGET In an exhibition game February 15 Oak Ridges downed Unionville 4-1. Scoring for the locals were Rick Lusk with two, Glen Wright and Ellis Blom. Awarded assists were Wright, Randy Bullock, Randy Koteff and Pat Densmore. BANTAM In a consolation game Richvale‘s Surf Marine defeated Oak Ridges Eagles 5-4. Scoring for the Eagles were Scott Reid with two goals and an assist, Steve Michalsky with a goal and two assists, Chris Jotham with a goal and an assist, Vern Therien and Dave Matanovic with an assist each. TR Y ATOM Club 99 squeaked past the Panthers 3-2 February _15 in the championship game on goals by Rodney Gilchrist, Sean Rheeder and Danny Summerhill. Carl Koteff netted both counters for the Panthers. The trophy was presented by Howard Gray. PEEWEE R&R Motors defeated the Panthers 1â€"0. Roberts netted the sixth goal with assists going to Bowers and Gates and then Cates was in the right spot to receive the puck from Price and Street to get the last goal of the game. Orillia visited the Hill February 15 to be defeated by Royal Bank 7-2. The Hill boys played a good game as the score tells. Neither side scored until the second period. Royal Bank opened with a goal by Madden from Bowers and Roberts. Roberts followed quickly with assits from Bowers and Madden. The next two goals went to Orillia. The Alex Brockton Midgets were 9-5 winners over Schomberg February 10 in the best of seven playdown series to enter the All Ontario. MIDGET In an exhibition game at Unionville February 9 Alex Brockton Midgets gave their hosts a 4-2 beating. Paul Smith, Dale Roffey, Carl Taylor and Brad Jotham were the marksmen. Ben Bourget in the Legion net played a really heads-up Richmond Hill Legion Midgets returned to the wars February 12, after reaching the semi-final in Drummondville, and tangled with Orillia in the second series of the York Simcoe playdowns to determine a winner to proceed into the all-Ontario. The Legionnaires once again collapsed in the third period. They were riding on a 2-1 lead going into that last period when Orillia coun- tered with three unan- swered goals to take the win Legion’s inability to move the puck out of their own end was very evident. “They were also too slow in setting up plays. Orillia had them- pegged and they didn’t recoup until the third period. The Legionnaires were putting on tremendous pressure around the Orillia net and couldn’t keep their cool, walking into a double penalty for roughing. That killed their chances. Orillia wrapped up the series Friday 2-0 on their home ice. Legion just couldn’t buy a goal and had the misfortune to run into a hot Orillia goalie plus some absolutely stupid penalties. Whether they were deserved or not matters not at this stage. The Generals compete against 15 teams in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association. Magnas win 1, also lose The Richmond Hill Magna Midgets ran into an inspired Barrie team Sunday as they were downed 4-1 after winning the previous game Saturday by 3-1 Orillia at Richmond Hill. Wallingford scored for the Legion in the first period, but Oak Ridges tied it up early in the second. Then came three unanswered goals by Danny Jones, Mike Ham assisted by Wallingford and Jones aided by Brillinger for the Legion. Oak Ridges got another, then Ham scored for the Legion assisted by Ross Middleton. An exhibition game with Oak Ridges was played February 16. The Legion took a 5-2 lead into the third period and just about “blew it" but managed to scramble away with a 5-4 win. series It was a 4-1 victory for Consumers Gas over Knapps Paints as Brian Dunnett, Scott Nirenberski, Wayne Cardwell and Claudio Favero netted the puck and Cardwell, Andrew Rockarts and Dunnett helped. Knapp’s loner came from the stick of Anthony Cronin who was set up by Ken Lennox. Lennox led Knapp’s to a 4- 2 win over Kinnear February 15 as he scored twice. Jimmy Lazenby and Darren Barry accounted for the other tallies and David Bialkowski, Norman Creasor, Steven Bumble and Lazenby got assists. Paul Robson claimed both Kinnear goals with help from Riswick and John Osmond. Sarazin and Goldsmith again hit the target twice each to give Braddock Optical a 4-3 win over Dan’s Esso. Sarazin also gained two assist points and Steven MacDonald one.- Brian Allencourt Pharmacy blanked Dan‘s Esso 4-0 on goals by Carman Morra, Jimmy Madden, Pat Morra and Tim Vantol. Assists went to Billy Tsotos, Pat Morra, Mark Ouellette and Carman Morra. ATOM Paul Sarazin and Mike Goldsmith each clicked for two goals for Braddock Optical February 8 as their team fought to a 4-all tie with Kinnear Pontiac.
