Members, friends and invited guests of the evening from the Willowdale Camera Club were welcomed by Norm Foster. ‘ The display of pictures of life the year round challenged the audience to improve their own techniques in photography of nature. Mrs. Ferguson took the viewers through spring, summer, autumn and winter, showing the beauty of nature in magnificent slides â€" from skunk- cabbage to marsh marigold to rattlesnakes and bullfrogs; from pitcher plants and wild orchids to dragon flies and cater- pillars; from coral mushrooms and common morels to thistles and common milkweed. Lighting angle is also important. A back-lighted butterfly could show beaufiful translucence. whereas a side-lighted butterfly could show iridescent blue from light reflection of the wing scales. Great care must be taken to observe backgrounds, to avoid excessive -light. to darken or lighten backgrounds as necessary she advised. equipment and to some of the techniques she uses and finds effective for work. Close-up lenses, macro lenses, 200m lenses, bellows, a good tripod, an umbrella and a reflector are im- portant.
