STOUFFVILLE: Test wells are nqu being drilled on the 10th line to try to locate an additional water supply for this community. The drilling is being done by International Water Supply. Estimated cost of acquiring the property (on the future site of the Dulverton Subdivision) and digging the well is $150,000. "We‘ll be able to get rid of our garbage.” he assured residents. “You don‘t have to worry." The property would need a provisional certificate as a dump from the ministry of the environment and that certificate may not be available by April 1, he said. Tests are underway on about 50 acres the town may buy for a municipal dump and so far they have been quite favorable. Mayor Gordon Ratclit‘f reports. York Sanitation has ap- plied to the Ontario Environmental Hearing Board for permission to expand the Highway 48 site. The hearing began last fall and will resume March 4. Meanwhile the town has called for tenders for gar- bage pickup and disposal and has been located for another dump site. The town maintains dumping operations on the York Sanitation site are endangering area water supplies. Late last year the Town of WhitchurCh-Stoufl'ville passed an anti-dumping bylaw in an effort to close the controversial York Sanitation Limited landfill site on Highway 48. It takes effect April 1. Whitchurch garbage problem The double fatality oc- curred sometime in the early morning of February 22 on River Road in Jackson's Point. It involved Robert Irvine, 18, 534 Osbourne Street, Roches Point, and Nancy Anne McCarroll, 17, of George Road, R. R. 2, Sutton West. York Regional Police are investigating an incident at Jackson‘s Point, in which two young people died from carbon monoxide poisoning, plus an airplane accident at Maple which sent two people to hospital with injuries.
