Change' in rules There has been one change in the club rules regarding tennis wear and this rule now reads. . “Whiletennis whites are encouraged and preferred, other acceptable tennis attire is permitted.“ Shoes must still be soft soled and have no heels. We would like to see as many young people as possible . . . girls as well as boys. All juniors up to 16. who have had instruction and are willing to train to win, are all welcome. Firstgame May 21 Once more the ladies are preparing to accept the challenge and Peggy Freeman, the ladies captain, is willing to slave away this summer with her ladies and hopes to field two teams. Anyone interested should meet at the club house April 23 at 10 am. come rain or come shine (if shine come ready to play). The first game will be May 21. Any female members who just wish to play friendly tennis should also attend this meeting as Peggy will also be organizing tennis on both Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons for those who have had a series of lessons and would now like to improve by just playing. The first event to take place this year will be the junior boys and girls team tryouts. These will be held next Saturday and on April 26 at the Crosby Park courts at 9 am. Junior team try-outs That time of year again to start thinking there will be a spring and then a summer in which to play tennis. And as most of the past members will have received their application forms for membership and coaching, I would suggest that anyone interested in joining the tennis club this year should contact either the above number or Carole Draper at 884-4859. Fran Williams also showed well placing fifth in intermediate bars. Mary- Lou and Vicki Farrell qualified for the GBSSA competition held at Barrie Central April 12. The girls’ “Jamboree†volleyball team played very well in the tournament at Langstaff last Monday. They lost in the semi-finals to Richmond Hill, who were the first place winners. Along with Lee and Angelo in mix'ed doubles were Carol Bickerstaff and Ron Guidohn. (Another team member unable to play because of a back injury was Linda Gor- ssline). The rest of the team played well in all divisions but were up against tough competition. The team includes Claudio Tersigni and Vince Cudia in men’s singles; Louise Gorssline in ladies‘ singles; Liz Karmanis and Betty Vollenbert as one team of ladies’ doubles; Marg Gregoire and Janet Hofmann as the second; Alfred Bonigut and Geoff Shaw in the men’s doubles along with Alan Francin and John Bordignon. York County badminton tournament was held last Thursday at ’I‘hornlea Secondary School. Lee Myers and Angelo Parravano placed second in mixed doubles in the Zone 6 competition and will go on to the York County finals and the BGSSA meet. Good luck!
