Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Doner, who will celebrate their 89th birthdays next week. Mrs. Doner will be celebrating June 2 and Mr. Doner June 3. The Doners now reside in Parkview House, Stouffville, but both were born, raised and lived most of their lives in Gormley. For many years they served this community in the general store and Mr. Doner was the postmaster. Neighborhood notes Rev. and Mrs. Eldon Boettger and Judy attended the graduation exercises at Bethany ' Fellowship at Minneapolis, Minnesota, on the weekend. Their son Paul was a member of the graduating class. Mr. and Mrs. David Sloss and sons saw his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Grant Sloss leave from Malton on Saturday for a five week trip to Sierra Leone and Nigeria, both in Africa. Mrs. Peter Martin of Englehart spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Farmer. Her daughter had heart surgery this week at the Sick Children’s Hospital, Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Farmer visited recently with their son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hutchinson, and family at Sundridge. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Reaman entertained at dinner Sunday in honor of the 20th wedding an- niversary of their daughter Doreen's marriage to Paul Farmer, their grandson Mark’s 16th birthday and their own 43rd wedding anniversary. Guests in- cluded Mr. and Mrs. Paul Farmer and family, Mrs. Beulah Jones of Stouffville and Roy Heise. Gormley Women‘s Institute met May 28 at the home of Mrs. Alex Chalmers. Mrs. George Boynton gave the Gazette and Mrs. Jack Gamble was in charge of the program. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. David Hay in the sudden passing of his mother last week. Mrs. Doug Henry un- derwent surgery Tuesday in North York General Hospital in Willowdale. A speedy recovery is wished for Mrs. Nettie Koch, who is a patient in York County Hospital, Newmarket. Miss Colleen Farmer was a guest at the wedding of Miss Janice Quinn and Dave Stevenson at Englehart on Saturday. Telecare, a 24-hour telephone crisis centre. is being formed in York Region. It will be operated by trained lay personnel and is expected to start in December. Telecare will co-operate with local area services and professionals will be on call at all times to handle emergencies or to refer distressed families to the appropriate agencies. Group training sessions of 50 hours of lectures, discussion, role playing and practice counselling will begin in September. Volunteers will be assessed by professionals who will then provide ap- prenticeship counselling. According to Publicity Chairman Mrs. Flo Urry of King Township the need for such a centre in York Region has been proven. “It will be a caring, listening and friendly glephone centre,” she said.
