This was the best showing of any weekly newspaper from York Region and Metro Toronto in this part of the annual newspaper ex- cellence contests. The Liberal's sports pages were judged against entries from 70 weekly newspapers of a1) circulation sizes from coast to coast. Contest results were announced at the CCNA annual convention in Saskatoon this month. Liberal sports is tops The Liberal landed in a three-way tie for fifth place in the “best sports page" section of the 1974 Canadian Community Newspaper Association competition. Tied for third were The Wasaga Beach Times and The Penetanguishene Citizen. It was the first time The Liberal entered national weekly newspaper competition at ‘least in recent yea rs. Judged to have the best sports page were two Peel Region newspapers. August 11. The caller said, “The string on your door is as thick as the one that will be around your neck." The victim went to the door and found a blue string tied around the doorknob. Food orders from restaurants and parcels from department stores have arrived COD, but were not ordered by the victim. There were also in- numerable telephone calls, with the caller hanging up as soon as the victim answered. According to a York Regional Police report. the person even had the victim’s telephone disconnected. Investi- gation is under way.
