Rumors are vicious They had previously warmed up for that key final game win against Uxbridge by downing Weston 6-5 in an exhibition match. Weston is the current PWSU Juvenile ‘C’ champions. This contest saw the local gals going without their number one pitcher who had been loaned to the juveniles. Start early But the big win was against Uxbridge as the first batter, Vicky Robinson, lined a double to centre field. She scored on another double by Kelly MacInnis. Then came a walk by Susie O’Connell and a hunt single by Lauren MacInnis which brought in another run. Richmond Hill now opens the playoffs with a best three out of five series against Oshawa. The Richmond Hill Cadillac Baif Midget Girls ended up atop the heap in the Lakeshore Softball League via a close 8-7 sudden death win over Uxbridge. The second inning saw singles by Steph Clarke, Robinson, and MacInnis to load the bases. I have just hung up the telephone after a long chat with Herb Walton. Herb, as you probably remember, is our equipment manager. He also has a philosophy of living that is based on total honesty, hard work and of being direct and to the point â€" I don‘t think he will really like my saying this â€" but he is rapidly becoming the conscience of the executive. ‘ Our conversation centred around the loss of two of our longstanding ‘A’ team sponsors and the reasons for it. Like an avalanche, it grows and changes with each re-telling and we determined to find the truth behind the whole situation and stop the whole mess before it went any further. ‘Concerned' people One was apparently the appointed spokesman of a group of “concerned” people. We talked about the reasons for change on the Midget team and I believe some satisfaction was reached. During the weekend I had the more pleasant experience of having one of our long-time supporters approach me for a chat. VAt that time it appeared they were persuaded to withdraw by a person or persons who were disgruntled with our change of management of the Midget ‘A‘ team. During the course of registration I was fortunate to be able to talk to three people. "hiring rthe conversation I was told that although stories were going around about this chap being the instigator of Open new gym club Rumors insidious To say the least, both of us were disturbed at this possibility and more than a little angry. Now, rumor is a terribly insidious thing and we all know how prevalent it is around sporting circles. ‘ The club will offer olympic (artistic) and rhythmic gymnastics and a fitness- recreational section for adults. Tamara The Langstaff Gymnastics Club will be under the direction of Tom Zivic, the Canadian national mens' coach and Naosaki Masaaki, the national senior mens’ champion and a finalist on the still rings in the pre-olympic games in Montreal. Masaaki is also the assistant gym- nastics coach at York University. A new gymnastics club is opening in this area. richmond hill ‘ minor hockey, Hi/l Cadillac Gals edge Uxbridge 8-7 to wind up in first Badminton season starts By Bob Reeves lead after only two nings. Keep on scoring The fourth inning saw MacInnis doubling to centre and Christy bunting safely to move the runner. O’Connell then grounded out to bring in a run. Lauren then bunted safely to bring in the second run. The score was 7-3 after the fourth inning. She was robbed Richmond Hill had a labelled homerun taken away from it when a ‘Moose' McLeave shot in the fifth inning was grabbed by the Uxbridge centrefielder on a spectacular play. The Swingers got their final run when Darline Nelson grounded a three bagger down the line and was driven in by Steph Clarke. Uxbridge staged a rally in the seventh with the Swingers leading 8-3 when Pitcher MacInnis walked a batter and the next one singled. This was followed by another walk to load the bases which brought O‘Connell in to relieve. She proceeded to walk the next three batters to force in as many runs and make the score 7-6. Shoestring catch MacInnis was brought out of a list of community organizations and events sent out recently by Markham Parks and Recreation Committee. Tha't’s it for this week. Remember, if you have a “beef” come and see us. - Registrhtions will also continue during the same hours. Sept. 22 at 8 p.m., Hillcrest Auditorium; Fall Dance, Sept. 27, Richvale Lions Club. But these three conversations pointed out a simple truth. Rumors can easily be quashed by coming to anyone of us directly and having a frank talk. It’s not difficult and it is effective. The board of directors have volun- teered to help young people play hockey. From time to time decisions will be made that some people may disagree with. There are two avenues open to air your views. Registration My thanks must go out to all the convenors and members of the board who worked so hard this week at registration. A very special thank you to all the ladies who helped out at a very successful skate exchange. Next week we will bring you the results of the final playoffs. Like any team there is little room for a dissident member. For the last time then the board made a decision with the Midgets and as Herb would say, “That’s a fact of life, we’ll carry on from here.” Registration will be at Langstaff Secondary School on Garden Avenue in Thornhill from 6 to 10 pm. on Sep- tember 29. Coaches together Finally, the coaches of the RHHA are coming together much like a team themselves. Their Saturday meeting was a most successful, learning and give and take session. Mrs. Bompa has been the national womens’ coach for modern and artistic gymnastics for the last two years. Well, I was happy to hear this especially from a person for whom I have great respect and especially since he took courage to find me and air the problem. The rumor machine Finally yesterday we had a very direct conversation with a third party and were assured he was in no way responsible for any decision by any of our sponsors. Wei], Iwas more than pleased to~hear this and it certainly appears we fell victim to the rumor machine. Bompa will be in charge of the rhyth- mic gymnastics section of the club. The day was saved then as Richmond Hill‘s Vicky Robinson made a shoestring catch on a hard-hit liner through the infield. The ball was then thrown to McLeave at home and the runner on third was trapped. A throw to Stephanie Clark got the runner and the championship was Rich- mond Hill‘s. Bridlewood Tournament The bases were still loaded with two out when a ground ball was hit to Robinson at shortstop. Her throw to second for the force out was late and another run scored to narrow lead to 8-7. The Bridlewood Tournament this weekend will pit Richmond Hill against the PWSU ‘B' finalist Cedar Hill in the first game Friday at 8:30 pm. Sarnia, who won the gold at the Ontario Summer Game, and Uxbridge, still in the finals of the PWSU will also be playing along with Bridlewood. Also participating will be Don Victoria who were also at the Summer Games. Bridlewood has won the PWSU ‘A’ championship.
